[color=#000040]for those of you who got their lpn first through the skill centers or gateway fast track, how was it? how many hours you spent studying per week? did you work during the program and how many hours? was it manageable?

i didn't work through the program, but i was taking bio202 and bio205 during block 1 at glendale. i would say you could work, but it would be hairy during block 2.

Thanks a lot, Hoozdo. Do you remember how many hours you spent at home studying?

Hmmmmmmmm, I would say a minimum of 20 hrs a week in block 1. I remember block 2 as being much more difficult and time consuming. This was mainly due to writing care plans. It takes about 8 - 10 hours for your first care plans when you first start writing them. You have one care plan due a week during clinicals.

I start school in Aug, what can I expect during Block one? Did you find Block 2 hard or just time consuming? What were the difficulties, if any?

I am really nervous, but excited! First step towards my RN!!!

I am really nervous, but excited! First step towards my RN!!!

I found nursing theory in Block I pretty easy. Lots of general-type theory/test questions. It was time consuming, though. Block II was much more disease focused - but still, as long as you pay attention in class and do the work - not too tough. Block IV was the tough one for me...Before then, I just showed-up and studied. Care plans are not too bad. Once you write your first one - the rest come pretty easily. They are/were an utter waste of time - haven't helped me one bit since I became an RN.
