Hello GCU summer applicants!

I figured someone else would have started a thread by now, but since they haven't I figured I would since the deadline is approaching in less than 2 weeks! I just wanted to know how everyone's application experience is going so far? Hopefully we can answer each others questions and this thread can serve as a place to share experiences especially while waiting for decisions.

I have my background check completed, my fingerprinting is in process, and I'm taking the HESI this week. I am super nervous!

I can't wait to hear from any of you who are applying! Don't be shy :) and good luck everyone!

I'm applying now for the fall 2015. How did your hesi go? What can I expect? And if you don't mind me asking what was your applying gpa and hesi score and if you had anything else they considered. And if you have heard back yet!

Has anyone received there acceptance letter or email for the GCU summer program yet

@jmdavis1006 We are supposed to hear on the 15th. But in previous years, they didn't find out until the 20th. What campus did you apply to? We had another GCU summer thread, but there were only 3 of us on it so we all started PMing each other. It would be cool to get a thread started again though!

Yeah that would be great if we started a new thread and I applied at the main campus and St joes

Awesome! I didn't know that you could apply to two campuses? I applied to St. Joe's. Most of the people I have talked to applied to St. Joe's or to the main campus! Do you attend GCU currently?

Hi! I'm also applying to St. Joe's this summer (I am one of the applicants Maycation is referring too :)). I haven't heard anything but am hoping to get some news either today or early next week sometime. My GPA is a 3.6, I went to GCU last semester so I am considered a GCU student through the application process. "GCU students" have a better chance of getting in than transfers, so that should better my chance. I did pretty good on my Hesi, the math portion was really easy, I got an 96%. Reading/writing I was in the 80's. My advice would be to try to get the highest GPA you can and do well on the Hesi. I retook some classes to get my GPA to the 3.6, all the advisors will tell you to do so also. Fall is most competitive, so you will just want to have good numbers to be safe :)

I applied for summer and honestly can't wait to find out :( I was looking at old threads from years passed and they didn't find out until the 19th. The suspense is killing me!

Hey everyone!

Good luck to all of you, week 7 is about to start for us and I can honestly say that going to GCU was one of the best decisions I have ever made! I am loving every single second of block 1. Be prepared for A LOT of work, but remember that it's all worth it and it truly does go by so fast!

If you guys have any questions I am more than willing to answer them!

@ApricotTea Thank you so much for writing on this thread and offering your advice. And congrats on making it half way through block one (I think its half way?). We still haven't heard back from GCU yet regarding our decisions. I know it was supposed to be by the 15th, but in previous years the summer hasn't found out until the 20th. I'm sure I can speak for everyone else when saying that the wait is a killer! After you found out that you were accepted, what kind of stuff did you need to do before actually starting the program? And is there any general advice that you could give us? Anything you wish you knew or would have done before starting or during block one? I am sure we will have tons of other questions for you after receiving our decisions!

No I don attend GCU currently. I applied last year but was put on the alternate list. So I hope I get in this year. 😊

Hi Maycation! Thank you so much, it's unbelievable how fast this semester is going, and I can't believe that next May I will graduate!

Once you are accepted, you will need to have titers drawn, a physical done, etc. etc. You will receive all of the information at the first orientation meeting! That's really it in terms of logistics prior to starting, but definitely get that stuff out of the way early, everything goes by so fast leading up to the first day! Oh, actually, you will also need to have any financial aid stuff figured out, you might hear more about that at the immunization orientation, at least that's how it worked for us... everything just needs to be squared away and finalized by the second orientation date.

In terms of advice, I am going to echo what almost everyone else on this site says... enjoy your freedom and do nothing! If you really want to do something, then brush up on your A&P and Patho! NEVER EVER EVER procrastinate... you will regret it. You guys will have a lot of assignments, always strive to do your very best on those even though they will make you want to pull your hair out, your GPA will thank you. Invest in an APA book and a nursing diagnosis book, they WILL help you (especially the APA book... I love that thing), don't get one of those APA software things...the level 2's at my campus actually warned us about them, saying they were not always correct and grades suffered when they were used; get the book and you can't go wrong. I would also get a comprehensive NCLEX review book, it may help you with exams! If I were you, I would also be prepared to do ALL the reading, if nothing else, do the required reading for Health Assessment - don't just rely on the Powerpoints (wish I had known that before my first exam...oh well, live and learn).

And finally, be prepared to be frustrated and confused. Nursing school truly does teach you how to be flexible, there was some miscommunication about what was expected of us in terms of assignments, etc., and things did not go smoothly for us until week 5 or so. Thankfully, we have great instructors who understand what we are going through and who bent over backwards to ensure everyone was on the same page!

I absolutely love GCU, the sense of community is immense and everyone wants you to graduate and they are willing to help you if you need it! Take it one day at a time you guys, you will all make it. Just be sure to take time for yourselves...it is definitely possible so don't slack on your own wellbeing.

Good luck to everyone, I know that horrible feeling that overwhelms you while waiting for the final decision! Hopefully the novel that I just wrote helps you guys a little! If you guys want anything else answered just let me know!
