It's kind of a weird question because I have no interest in being an RN first assist but as part of my huc job I sometimes have to call them if we are having an emergency or otherwise unscheduled Csection. I work night shift 7p-7am so I call them at home at like 0330 and ask if they can come in and they have no problem coming in they are almost excited to hear from me. The only reason I can think of is that they must get paid some astronomical amount of money when they come in but it is kinda of unprofessional of me to ask but the curiosity is driving me nuts!!!!

So if someone can please kill this curiosity for me I would totally appreciate it!!

Or maybe they enjoy their job. Either way, pay info:

What exactly is an RN First Assist? Are they employees of your hospital? Registry?

We don't use those, but we usually have one or two nurses on call each shift. If we're called in, we get double time. I'm usually excited to go in too if I'm called, just so I get double time! Yeah it sounds greedy ... but, we deserve it!

From what I've heard RN First Assist gigs are not unheard of but are hard to come by. It's really the realm of physician assistants. Those poor PAs work their butts off, take on a lot of responsibility, and are underpaid in my mind.
