Anyone here attended or know anyone who attended Southern Union Community College?

Congrats!!! I go to class 4 days a week, sometimes 5. It depends on what lab time you sign up for. I'm in the late lab group and that's why I have to go 5 days a wk sometimes. On Mon and Wed I'm usually there from 8-1115. Tues and Thur are lab which is 2-430. But at least a couple days a month we are there for about 8 hrs one day. Like tomorrow I have to be there 8-3. Class is good, kinda boring. Lab is fun though. Lots of reading and teaching yourself procedures. We start clinicals next wk, we go 8 days total, Tu and Thu.

Do they offer labs in the mornings at all? Are any clinicals offered on the weekends? I work fulltime, so I'm trying to figure out my schedule.

yes, lab a is 8-1030, lab b is somewhere around 11 , lab c is 2-430. For this semester they did offer the choice of having some sat. for clinicals, they go thur and sat 730-330. It is definitely hard to work and do all of this. I dropped my hours to about 25 a week. Lots of ppl quit work when they started the program.

Specializes in CNA.

Hey allsmilez, I have to attend the orientation next week Tuesday (Nov 2nd) & I was just able to pay for my background check today. I am a bit worried because on the acceptance packet it said it may take up to three weeks and it has to be submitted before the orientation. :uhoh3: Do you happen to remember when you submitted your background check & how long it took for your background check to process? Please help me out! Thanks!

I sent mine the day I got the acceptance letter. They don't check that for orientation, so you should be fine. They tell you how your schedule is gonna be and how much money you are about to have to spend. I think the background just has to be in by the time you start the program as well as with proof of all immunizations( which is a pain by the way, I had to get a Tetorifice and Chickenpox shot)

As long as you've paid for the background check you are good. They can tell you if it's processing or not. It doesn't have to be completed by then.

In orientation, they said there may be a few labs or hospital orientations on fridays. How often do they usually have you come in on fridays? And is it scheduled in advance, or are you just told that week to show up friday? Thanks so much!

They are scheduled well in advanced. When you get your class calendar the first day everything will be listed for you. Rarely does something get changed and if so it'll just be canceled or rescheduled and they'll let you know i advanced as well.

Ok, thanks so much! They gave us January's calendar at orientation, and it kind of overwhelmed me. I'm trying to work it out with my job so I can still eat and pay my bills during school :)

And if anything is changed they will put up a new updated calendar on blackboard. That way you can show it to your job if needed. That always helped me. But i didn't have a problem working per diem while in nursing school. Some worked full time and have families to take care of. I give them props!!!!

where do you go for your clinical? do you go by yourself or with your partner?
