Private Student Loans???

Ok, anyone else not eligible for federal student aid? Are there still places actually giving out private student loans to cover tuition and living expenses?

I'm in the same boat. Fortunately, my employer is helping pay for my tuition. I would check into federal loans specifically for Nursing. Even if you can't get federal grants you should still be able to get a federal loan-esp for nursing. Try this link: http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/DSA/nsl.htm

Select subsidized rather than unsubsidized.

The Subsidized Stafford – The government pays the interest that accrues while you are enrolled in school at least half-time. You are eligible for this type of loan based on your financial need.

The Unsubsidized Stafford – You are responsible for paying all the interest that accrues, although you will not have to begin payments until after you graduate or enroll in school less than half-time. You are eligible for this type of loan regardless of financial need.

why dont you use stafford loans through fafsa. why wouldnt you be elgible for that. ive never gotten financial aid but ive done this.

Have you checked to see if your state offers a scholarship/grant program for nursing students? Many states do, in order to encourage people in the state to go into nursing (my state has three different state programs that provide funding for nursing students). Often you can "work off" the loan instead of paying it back, which is a v. nice option. If it were me, I would eliminate all other possibilities before taking out private loans ...

Check FastWebs scholarship site for this one particular scholarship for individuals that were rejected for federal financial aid. Also, as far as private loans, I've always heard people talking about the Sallie Mae loans. The Sallie Mae Smart Option private loan is the one I'm currently applying for.
