Jeff State Fall 2012

U.S.A. Alabama

I noticed there were threads for the other semesters, so I thought I would get this one started. There's another week until the deadline, but I've finished everything I can do. Now it's just waiting.

I'm hoping to start the fall semester at the Jefferson campus. If I did the calculations correctly, I have 205 points on the checklist. Good luck everyone; I hope to see you this fall.

This Fall isn't open for registration yet. Don't fret. Most schools leave past schedules up so that one may view what was offered in previous semesters. If you are accepted into the program, then there will be a class seat for you. It hasn't been a week yet, and I am filled with antici--pation (a cookie for whomever gets that movie quote reference) :D

I am already nervous too! I am just going to put it on the back burner and enjoy the summer!

I spoke to a lady that works in the office at Jefferson and she said that for the full-time program the cut off was around 176 previously and the advisor told me that we should hear back the first or second week of July. That's a long time to wait! Does anyone know about how many people applied to the full-time program? I know someone said that around 700 applied to the part-time..

Well hearing that that was the cutoff for the full time program makes me feel much better. Anyone know if it is doable to have a job and go to nursing school at the same time? Or an I asking for trouble? lol No idea how many applied for the part time program. When I went to see the advisor at the Jefferson campus she had two filing cabinet drawers and a stack that came halfway up my calf of applications. She said "This is what I get to do" so I have no idea!

I wonder about working too. I don't see how to avoid it. I'm probably going to try waiting tables... I'll have to leave my full time job before school starts.

I have an interview tomorrow at Walgreens. Possibly as a pharmacy tech. I will probably work around 20 hours a week. I don't want to get in over my head though...

Ive heard from a lot of people that it's almost impossible to work and go to nursing school at the same time, just because nursing school is so time consuming.

I also applied for the full time program with 205 points.....let the waiting begin!

I heard that 2/3 of the nursing students flunk out of the program. That is so depressing and scary :( Some of the reviews of the instructors at rate my professor .com are so bad that it's no wonder. Do any of you have a backup plan if you flunk out?

Right now, I am concentrating on just getting into the program. I currently have a friend who is in the Shelby full time course, and his suggestion was to either go to the Jefferson campus or do the nights and weekends program. According to those who have gone through the Shelby full time program, what is reported on ratemyprofessors.com is mild in regard to the attitudes and disorganization one actually faces first semester. I plan to get in, do my work and take advantage of the resources I have. I have numerous friends and family who are RNs, Drs, OTs and forensic scientists. I don't intend on letting negativity into my thought process. Believe in yourself and your abilities.

Unless you are a masochist do NOT go to the Shelby campus. I just started this summer and am already so overwhelmed :( The instructors are MEAN and constantly make you feel like an idiot/moron. I absolutely hate it but I'm praying things will get better. I am so depressed at the thought that I might not make it :( I want to have a positive attitude but the instructors tell us constantly that most of us do NOT have what it takes :(

From what I have heard, once you get through the first semester at Shelby, and don't have to deal with those "instructors", the following semesters although tough, are MUCH easier to get through in terms of attitude of instructors. I know they have tenure and think they cannot be touched, but tenure can be overridden and they CAN be fired. I wish someone from the BON would take action. Especially if the "instructor" continues bringing their child to the classes/labs. Georgiapeach23, read, read, read, practice your calculations and don't let their negativity get into your head. Don't let yourself become collateral damage from the misery they must have in their own lives. Keep your chin up. I hope it gets better.
