Info about Calhoun Comm College Fall 2009

U.S.A. Alabama

Published

I thought I would pass along some info I recieved this morning for those of us waiting to hear back from Calhoun. I recieved this info from a press release at the chamber of commerce (I am a member and they sent this info out in a newsletter). Anyway, they said that applications were up 36% from Fall 2008 applications and gave the number breakdown as follows.

The comparison of 2008 to 2009 applications by program is below:

2009: ADN/RN: 544 2008: 449

2009: PN (Practical Nursing): 211 2008: 161

2009 PTE (Part-Time Evening): 277 2008: 145

Beginning this fall, the college will now admit two classes of Associate degree nursing students - one in August and one in January, a first for Calhoun. According to McGill, a total of 200 students will be admitted for the August class -- 120 associate's degree (ADN)/RN students and 80 licensed practical nursing (LPN) students. One hundred additional ADN students will be admitted in January 2010.

Good Morning!

JenJenFree....I think you have a really good chance of getting in this fall! They have several students (like myself) that applied for the the ADN program and the PT Evening and got accepted to both. Thing is, you can only accept one offer so.....in my case I accepted the PT evening program and declined the ADN offer. That opens up a slot for someone of the wait list. Hope that helps! Congrats to all that got accepted!

VSBlonde- where did you find that info? I guess I haven't had enough coffee yet because it eludes me still! LOL

Thanks meRVT..I just would like to have an idea of what I need to do. By the way, should I go ahead and get the physical form completed or wait. They sent me a form to sign up for the CPR course. Have you signed up yet?

If you go to Calhoun's main webpage, a link to the fall schedule is on there. That's where I found that info.

Oh, duh! Thanks VSBlonde! Now we're cooking!

JenJenFree-

I would go ahead and sign up for CPR and get your physical done. CPR slots are filling up so fast and you might as well get it over with. Also, you don't want to wait until you hear something and there be no CPR openings!

Those who are currently in first semester.... what group are you in, A or B??

A.

Good luck on clinicals tomorrow! I'm so excited!

okay, i'm in B...

How'd it go yesterday?? :)

It went fine...Mostly it was just orientation and vitals. Still, I was glad to get to actually have my first patient! So you must have had yours today? What did you think?

It was a strange feeling actually getting to work with a real patient, but I think I'm going to love it! :)
