I am a Travel RN, and I am interested in a local agency in between my assignments. Does anyone know any GREAT agencies in or near Atlanta?

Maxim is pretty big and I think ATL is their biggest market. I have a few issues here and there with them, but overall ok I guess.

I have had not so good luck with agency/travel nursing agencies. I did local travel for medstaff in 2004-2006. these were consecutive contracts ; 1st year I kept renewing my contract with 1 facility every 13 weeks and the 2nd year kept renewing my contract every 13 weeks for the following year. I did perdeim/agency while I was doing the contracts- extra days during the week at other facilities. Since each facility where my contracts were had applied for MAGNET STATUS-they were taking no more travelers ( as one of the stipulations of magnet status is - the facility has to be staffed by thier own and not agency) the traveler contracts began to "dry up". I was scheduled to do 12 per deim shifts/ month and ended up getting cancelled for 9 of the 12. I was going through a divorce and needed the income and my own health insurance, I took the agency's insurance. Medstaff did NOT take the insurance deduction out of my pay for one whole year- so in the middle of a New Jersey January they decided to keep one ENTIRE pay check to cover $1,800. and then began the cancellation- I went an got a staff position quickly before I lost my home. I again tried agency/travel in this APRIL/May/June after being again dissillusioned with staff nursing(TELE) on a few occassions- this time with favorite- I was scheduled for per deim- ?at LTC facilities- ?an RN TELE nurse with experience. I was cancelled all but 1 shift in 1 month, so I called the other local offices- Phila(I have a PA licen from my medstaff days) the recruiter was a real go getter and was trying to get me into the VA for shifts for someone there going out on a surgical leave, paperwork being faxed and e-mailed- when all of a sudden I called the recruiter one day only to find out she had been fired and the didlytwit from NJ office had taken her place- I've heard nothing about this VA since that was early May. I got a call one Thursday evening jun 4 at 4;30 pm by the travel division of favorite- could I do an emergency need in North Jersey be there and begin Jun5 before 5p- YES, I drive and go( I was told 48hours per WEEK guaranteed) in the 2 weeks I was there I was cancelled 5 times- I worked a total of 5 -6 days. one of those days was a 17.44 hour day for which I have only been paid 12.0 hours, I was told the manager was going to try to get me paid for afew of the days I was cancelled - I went to the hospital, dressed and ready to work only to be told I was cancelled no prior notice. back to favorite per deim during all this - I was scheduled for shifts only to be cancelled more, one of these places I found out about needs at this one LTC facility(I ran across the nurse who just left and a facility favorite staffs and told this didlytwit in the cherry hill office and would she schedule me for them- OH YES she said- I think she gave them to someone else- may be a friend of hers) and guess who is still being cancelled. I would like to know which agency is honest and does try to get their nurses work. I'm not to keen on going staff again with all the problems and crap that brings- but I am sick of these moron games- someone could end up loosing thier home - while these little girls who still live at home with mommy and daddy in these agencies don't get us shifts or even know the differences in the nursing specialities. Does any one now any agency that is honest, and competent on the north east coast.

I work both through Maxim and Supplemental. Both are good. The guys at Maxim really hustle and are VERY nice, but Supplemental often brings in more assignments. I don't think you could go wrong with either, and they are both
nationwide. Good luck!
