Hi Jonna. I've been thinking the same thing too. I'd probably call the OIIQ office next week about this.

Hi,I am very new here and I would like to ask if anyone has heard about taking french in highschool so you wouldnt have to take the language test required by OIIQ. I still have to submit an application for evaluation and I am wondering if I should take the highschool french first before i submit my OIIQ application. Thanks for the help, in advance. I am still adjusting into the quebecoise society since I have only arrived fr the Phil. a week ago.
My understanding is that the only way you can avoid the french competency tests is if your education was in french...not just some high school 101 french. Remember that most people in quebec are french speakers. There are a lot of them who stubbornly refuse to learn english, just to make a point. If you were to be working and have one of these people as a patient, I can just see the stink being caused. However, if you are immigrating from another country you can look into free french classes. Quebec and the french mentality and lifestyle are very ummm...special... I grew up in it and it still infuriates me lol.

    hello guyz,
I m new to the forum, n i jus luv it. Almost all my doubts were clarified aftr readin this thread.
I have studied from India and working in ER as staff nurse since 1 and half yr. I have received my OIIQ application form packet n they have asked for a 'comparative evaluation of studies done outside quebec'. Now this is a news for me b'coz i hav been reading threads on OIIQ reistration for quite a long time and no body mentioned about it. I tried to find out more about it but the application form for comparative evaluation itself is in french which i cud not understand. They are also asking for approx 125 CAD for comparative evaluation. Now if the evaluation was to be done by MICC only then what is OIIQ sitting for n why is OIIQ charging 690 CADs.
Has any body gone though this procedure. your views will b highly appriciated!!

    thanxx

You will need to be fluent in French. Have you considered that.

I'm already taking french classes. I think one year will be enough for me to learn french.

I guess you'll find out. D'apprendre la langue française n'est pas aussi facile que ça en a l'air.

I took French in school from the age of 5 till 23 and I am no where near fluent enough to work in Quebec. Good luck!!!
