right now im just waiting for the result...so fingers crossed...

I dont know about here in the UK... I was told they have 10 years as well (please correct me if I am wrong)

Im from the Philippines as well...I do apologise for not being clear from the beginning..

What I am sharing is just what I have gone through with CNO and if there are any nurses out there who has got the same or different experience to mine...please feel free to share...

Ohhh and by the way regarding the Engish/French fluency requirement..it is indeed required both by CNO and CRNBC for IEN's to have one (IEN's whose English or French is not their first language)... But if you have been working for more than 5 years in an English or French speaking country, then you are exempted from this requirement ...

From what I remember, in the UK you head into school at age 4 and have an option to leave at 16, but if you want to go onto higher education/university you remain in school until age 18.

Pretty similar to North America.

Yep roughly that some may start at age 5 as it all goes on DOB

For dopey and dopier, since we just have the same curriculum, there's a posibility that I still have to take a bridging program!?

Lenjoy03,

CNO has given two options...

(1) The CNO feels that I have to complete an additional nursing edication that included theoretical/clinical elements to be able to meet the CNO's baccalaureate program requirement ... These elements were Pharmacology, Health Assessment, Technology, Gerontology, Computers, Cultural Context Practice Standards and Legal/ Ethical/Issues

I did argue with my assessor as to how they came up with these elements when clearly some of them are included in my nursing curriculum....She said that these subjects which we have covered back home did not apply to Canada as their Nursing is different from ours....

(2) To provide them with the job descriptions of my current and previous jobs and course description/outline of the courses that I have done... CNO also informed me that because of my years of experience in nursing there won't be a problem and that I should just submit what they asked for...

I chose the 2nd option as it will take me more than 6 months to satisfy their first requirement....

Hope this helps!!

I see... so there's a posibility that nurses who will apply there dont have to undergo the bridging program if they have the required clinical experience? Am I right? Because from what I've read, they require 1,912 clinical experience. I just dont know if I understand it right that that given clinical requirement is applicable to our clinical experience here in the Philippines.

I thought it was your gradeschool and highschool studies that are incomplete.. how come they require you to take up those subjects? did they tell you exactly that it was your gradeschool/hs or it's your BSN degree that has the problem...? haha.. i hope you get me..

dear ctatatcute,

we share the same contention, one of the few things that i argued with my assessor....if you guys only knew....i composed a heart-felt email and sent it to her...

"as stated on your letter saying that i didnt spend a total of 12 years of grade school and high school education, so does this mean that my training and education in nursing is irrelevant to my application and to your assessment?

if what is important to my application for registration is the prerequisite for my baccalaureate program, why am i being asked to complete additional nursing education when this belongs to the tertiary level?" and the response was

" because of the difference in the entry level of the bscn you completed and the required level of an ontario bscn, your program was not equivalent. we have in no way have disregarded the additional education or experience you completed, hence we are providing you with option #2."

so there you go....it's something i have to abide by...

i was really disappointed with the result...cuz i have friend who applied beforehand....she was not successful with her initial application with cno also...in her case, she said that it was her nursing education that was the problem and not her primary and secondary education (she's also from the philippines, and we all spent 10 years in grade school and high school).

so i thought that i'd be ok considering the im a product of a good nursing school not to mention my years of experience in nursing....

Dear Lenjoy03,

Hi!!!

My required RN Clinical Practice are: 200 hours clinical and 200 hours practicum/consolidation practicum

CNO has taken everything into account!

Clinical experience, courses taken after your basic nursing program, etc. they had reviewed all my documents for 10 weeks. According to their assessment My primary and secondary education was the only issue.

Again and I emphasize, this is just my experience...others might have a different result...

I had a look at their Booklet, it seems that the requirements they ask of me to complete fell under the category of Additinal Education requiredfor nurses who have not worked in the last five years and have completed their nursing program more than 5 years ago

For now, my dream of living and working in Canada is on hold and it is all up to the Board of Registration...

:banghead:

dopey & -ier

thanks dopey&dopier, I guess it's a case to case basis.. I hope I wouldn't have a problem considering I came from a good nursing school but since I only have 10 years of gradeschool and HS (and there's nothing I can do about that) hope it will still be ok... oh well...

how about your immigration? what did you process first? your visa or your CNO registration?

dear ctatacute,

i do hope you'd be luckier than i am!!

like in my previous posts i got the job first!! prior to finding an employer, i have already submitted my application for registration with cno...

to start the immigration process/application for a work permit you'll need:

letter from cno

job offer letter

human resources and social development canada confirmation (your employer will apply this for you)

unfortunately, im still trying to get hold of the first requirement, so it has to wait....luckily as i was told by my agent, my job is secured as for now... but for how long, i don't know!!!

Gee.... I better think before registering to any college. The regsitration fee is not that cheap you know! I'm planning to encourage my sister to register there because she already have a 8 years nursing experience and had units in MA. Hope that counts!!!
