hi! Ive applied for an assessment for RN in NSW. I can say that I know very much on the how to's in applying for bridging course in Australia since I did it on my own. I got the recommendation letter from the board and was advised to undergo a competence assessment program in the college of nursing in Burwood.

to make it short: (If u want to apply in NSW)

1. Take IELTS first, all 7 on all the components

2. Read the instructions on the website--www.nmb.nsw.gov.au

basically here are the most Important things:

a. go to PRC, request for verification of registration to be sent directly to the board

b. go to your university or college, request for transcript and nursing course description to be sent directly to the board

c. go to IDP or British Council, request for a copy of your all 7 each in all components of your report grade to be sent directly to the board

d. fill up the application form-http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/please-proceed-RN/default.aspx

(with the application form, you need to have it notarised, and pay $105 through credit card or money order etc)

that's basically the initial requirements to be sent to the nursing board

here is the information booklet that will guide you/checklist in filing your application:

http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/Info-Booklet/default.aspx

Assessment is a case to case basis but basically Overseas nurses are recommended to undergo the bridging course.

You will receive a recommendation letter from the nursing board stating the Nursing school that provides the bridging course or the school that you have to go to to get your registration training

Example of the recommendation letter:

i feel so unsure

as i take your hand and lead you to the dance floor

as the music dies, something in your eyes

calls to mind the silver screen

and all its sad good-byes

i'm never gonna dance again

guilty feet have got no rhythm

though it's easy to pretend

i know you're not a fool

should've known better than to cheat a friend

and waste the chance that i've been given

so i'm never gonna dance again

the way i danced with you

:smokin:

Good for you, at least you're not a second courser like me. I am really praying that they assess me as an RN.

Hi chocokat, is this the reason probably why they say your BSN doesn't match theirs? May I ask what's the problem with 2nd courses? I am also a 2nd courser but it was a 3-year curriculum and my Diploma states I graduated Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The 1 year was waived because the minor subjects have been evaluated as already undertook during the 1st course also with the same university.

How many years did you finish your BSN as a second courser? I'm a bit worried now..

Assessment is a case by case situation. There are plenty of 2nd coursers applying in Melbourne and there are people who are successfully assessed as RN despite studying for 2 years only.

At the current situation now having your assessment with nsw is not advisable.

Why do you say so? Can you please give me details? Whats the current situation you are referring to?

The unification of registering bodies. It's causing great influx of applicants, bp courses are limited, some schools/hospitals are no longer offering bp, bp slots are already full, long waiting list for bp slots next year. Hopefully, things will stabilize by July. Just wait and see.

Okay, thanks for the tip. Since in NSW only the College of Nursing is offering the BP course i'll inquire from them first the chances of entering the BP program in 2011, because I'm seriously applying for eligibility infact this week i'll be sending already my documents.

Bp program in all states are limited right now especially here in wa. Maybe we'll see changes by July. Also, assessment in nsw will now take up to 6 mos. Even in nbv. Gud luck mate

is there a huge difference between nbv and nbnsw?a friend of mine told me that he's been hearing negative comments about the former.

i wish i can make it to the September intake...and that also goes with other applicants...

I'm not sure why. Well they haven't handed out their formal assessment yet but as I've said, I'm not expecting anymore. I don't know if the reason is really because I'm a second courser or what. But I think that of all the states/territories in AU, NSW's nursing council is the strictest. A counselor at IDP told me so. Once I inquired about courses that I can take and just happened to mention that I applied at NSW-NMB for registration and that I was given a not-so-satisfactory preliminary assessment. The counselor confirmed that of all the states, NSW is the most stringent.

I took up my BSN for 8 semesters, equivalent to 3 years (including summers). I have no failing grades nor did I repeat any subject. I even asked our Dean to make a letter stating that fact. My diploma says Bachelor of Science in Nursing also. My TOR from my first university was also attached to my BSN TOR. But I do not have any working experience post-registration. Maybe that's why. But don't worry, as everybody says it's a case to case basis. I hope you'll be assessed as an RN.

Just pray while awaiting for the results ...I sincerely hope they consider you as an RN.do you have a work experience or a volunteer experience?

Hi Julia, thanks for the encouragement, though I've prepared myself already :D...

Nope, no post registration experience. That is why I seldom visit out thread; coz I've been busy nowadays . Been (unsuccessfully) trying to find work and practice our oh, very dear profession :lol2:

Good luck and God bless on all our applications!
