hi! Ive applied for an assessment for RN in NSW. I can say that I know very much on the how to's in applying for bridging course in Australia since I did it on my own. I got the recommendation letter from the board and was advised to undergo a competence assessment program in the college of nursing in Burwood.

to make it short: (If u want to apply in NSW)

1. Take IELTS first, all 7 on all the components

2. Read the instructions on the website--www.nmb.nsw.gov.au

basically here are the most Important things:

a. go to PRC, request for verification of registration to be sent directly to the board

b. go to your university or college, request for transcript and nursing course description to be sent directly to the board

c. go to IDP or British Council, request for a copy of your all 7 each in all components of your report grade to be sent directly to the board

d. fill up the application form-http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/please-proceed-RN/default.aspx

(with the application form, you need to have it notarised, and pay $105 through credit card or money order etc)

that's basically the initial requirements to be sent to the nursing board

here is the information booklet that will guide you/checklist in filing your application:

http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/Info-Booklet/default.aspx

Assessment is a case to case basis but basically Overseas nurses are recommended to undergo the bridging course.

You will receive a recommendation letter from the nursing board stating the Nursing school that provides the bridging course or the school that you have to go to to get your registration training

Example of the recommendation letter:

3. Successful applicants will be notified by mail.

Applicants are advised not to finalise any personal arrangements until confirmation of a place in the program is received from The College of Nursing.

If you have questions, feel free to ask :coollook:

hello guyz.......i just want to know whose going to nsw this year ....i need company

me and my friends are planning to, but we still have to be assessed so we can't really tell right away..

Does anybody know what regulatory body in Australia handles the recruiting agencies there?

I understand it's only the TOR and Course Syllabus/Description that they require the school to send directly to them. For the Diploma it should be a Certified True Copy that you yourself will send along with your application form and other documents. As for the evidence of good character, you can use the form attached in the Information Booklet, next to the form you can see a list of people who are supposed to fill up that form (eg. registered nurse, teacher-5 years above, govt. employee with a certain number of experience, etc).. just refer to it, i think its page 19 of the booklet, you should provide 2 for that.

Goodluck to you! As for me I hope to finish everything by next week...whether or not its a good thing to lodge in my application now I've decided to just go for it and hope for the best, at least I gave it a try :)

I just wanna confirm if what I have understood about the requirements in the checklist is correct:

-TOR,RLE,course description

-copy of diploma(certified true copy)

-board rating(certified true copy)

-professional recommendations

-for second coursers-certified true copy of diploma of initial course(???)

-CTC of highschool diploma(???)*

-CTC of passport(???)

guys, are all these required to be submitted?I'm really not sure about the other parts in the checklist especially those with the * symbol.I got confused.

@julia

I suggest that you just provide them what is stated in the checklist. In my case, I prepared all those you've mentioned above. Don't forget your IELTS result, Good Standing/Verification of Registration from PRC, Good Character, Application Form must be notarized (statutory declaration). Aside from passport I also prepared my birth records and marriage certificate. Also prepared evidence of Initial Registration (PRC license).

You only have to notarize one (1) document and that's the Statutory Declaration.:)

Yes it is true.. I spoke to them myself on the phone. They said after July (consolidation of all nursing registration) they will know then if they will offer it again or they might be asked by the board to offer another program (probably the conversion).

hi!

they sent me an email just a while ago and this is how the last part of it goes:

please note, it is anticipated that there will be national registration of nurses and midwives in australia commencing on 1 july 2010. applications that have been made to the nurses and midwives board of new south wales, where a decision has not been finalised, may be required to meet the new legislative requirements of the australian national nursing and midwifery board when they are implemented. at this time, i am unable to advise about additional requirements (if any), which may be in place after the commencement of national registration. information when available will be placed on the board's website.

information about the national scheme is available at:

http://www.ahpra.gov.au/

and the nursing and midwifery board of australia's website is:

http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/index.html?

i think it says that if you have submitted your documents(earlier) and the decision of the board (whether you can take the bridging program or not)is finalized just before the commencement of the national scheme, i think the old protocol would still be followed. however, if the processing of your documents reached the time of the implementation of the national scheme then the new protocol would be followed in assessing your papers.

i have read in the website that the time that it would take for the documents to be processed after the implementation of the national scheme may probably be lessened. but, it is to our disadvantage that there is a probability that the new scheme may impose stricter rules or higher standards which may be arduous for us to satisfy.

i'm still planning to send my documents just to be on the safer side.you never know when luck will strike you right?:p

You only have to notarize one (1) document and that's the Statutory Declaration.:)

oh geesh!I had the other documents notarized as well! I thought that's what the earlier section of the booklet said!:hdvwl:

oh well! atleast they can be sure about the authenticity of my documents..but boy was it expensive!:uhoh3:

@yea julia

You're right... you will never know hehe atleast we gave it a try. Quite expensive to get everything ready and the fees involved too but it's really like that LoL. I'm sending my docs on Wed. or Thurs. Goodluck to us ^_^
