What does MSN® mean in somebody's title?

I know what MSN means, but not the "®."

I am just curious.

Thanks a bunch!

Specializes in Vascular Access.

I believe that this person is saying that he/she has a masters in nursing, but that they are currently retired.

I've seen people do that with military rank, but never with a nursing degree -- I wonder why on earth one would bother to distinguish, since degrees don't "retire" and don't imply anything about whether you're actively practicing or not in the first place ...

Specializes in Outpatient Psychiatry.

Research?

I googled it finding only one return, Margaret Benz of St Louis Uni. She had a MSN and post masters NP training.

Maybe it means redundant lol.
