Yukon outpost nursing

Published

Hello, wondering if anyone can share their experience of working Yukon's outpost nursing stations?? I have been working in Northern BC outpost stations and am considering the Yukon but curious about overtime and callbacks?? The communities seem to be all less than 500 people so just wondering how often nurses get callbacks when working at the clinics?

Thanks!

Geez, I have no idea but it sounds interesting!

I'd love to hear about other nurses experiences as well. For me it's a bit of a fantasy but I find the subject fascinating.

I am a nurse in the Yukon - I have a little bit of a different role in my clinic and I don't personally take call (sweetest deal on the planet), but the PCNs in my clinic can be very busy in the off hours - most nights they get at least one call if not multiple calls/clinic visits. Our clinic is one of the busier ones though - some communities rarely get calls. It really varies. Call and OT $$ are good, but prepare to give up about 50% of your nights/weekends.

They seem to be always recruiting up here for both AOC (auxiliary on call) and PTR (part time rotation) positions (2/3 months in, 2/3 months out). There are also full time positions that come up from time to time. Most people do not start in any particular community and float to where ever staff is needed. Accommodations are generally provided.

It's beautiful in the Yukon. I recommend you apply and further explore your options.

Thank you so much for the info ?. This was very helpful!

Thanks so much for the info. I'd love to go for a year and do something very different than I'm used to. Just gotta convince the wife.
