8 yrs Clean and Sober but still trying to get Nursing License Back

Hi I am a recovering addict that has eight years sobriety and it has been a long hard road. I went through HPRP in MI and I never did complete a full contract but I did complete nearly 2 years of a 3 year contract with no problems. It was financially difficult with two toddlers and unable to work but through all of the problems I maintained my sobriety. I have been to the Nursing Board and Court for my license numerous times and I am heading there again the end of this month due to a license suspension of 6 mth + 1 Day and they did not reinstate my license in September. My drug of choice was marijuana I never drank and it has been very hard for me to show that I am clean. I cannot afford to go to therapy anymore and I am not under contract with HPRP I have no insurance or employment right now.

I guess I just need some positive encouragement that all of this will turn out OK the end of this month so I can return to the job I love so much and that is caring for my patients. It has been nearly two years since I have worked.

I'm confused. If you have been clean and sober for eight years, what was the 6-month suspension for? And when did you receive it?

I do wish you the best in getting this straightened out. The good thing that you can take a way from this is that you stayed clean even though you could have rationalized doing otherwise. I hope that someone in authority will be able to honor your good choices with reinstatement.

As I stated I was in HPRP in MI but never completed the contract due to mainly financial reasons and it has been up and down two pregnancies etc. Basically this suspension was due to not completing a second contract and not being able to fullfil all of the requirements. that is very hard when you are not working and getting no assistance. I am just hoping that when I go to court they will see that I have changed and accepted what I did was wrong but I deserve to return to work. They requested another evaluation and to complete two CEUs before I go to court which I have all of that in the works and made it clear to my therapists that I have not used in 8 years.

I really appreciate this site and it has helped me to look at things in a different light. Nurses need to all work together in order to help others.

Thank again Gisele
