Your nursing story

Published

Hello,

I would love to hear all your stories on WHY you got into nursing and what path you took to get there. Did you go right after highschool? Was your calling not untill later in life? After raising a family? While raising a family?

Im sure you all have some intresting reads :)

hi silverdragon , thank you.....yeah I realise I would need to go back to school and also take the exam, just trying to figure out how much schooling and costs etc to see if its something I really want to do. Scared to pay all the money and not enjoy it....so confused!! ;-)

I always wanted to be in health care. I was a teen mom and after I had my son at 16 I knew I really wanted a career. I knew I wanted to help people. BUT.... It was very hard to try and complete my highschool and support a child. I got a job in property management and thought it was over, I was never going to become an RN.

While pregnant with my second son (at 20 yrs old) and still working in a management office, a wonderful nursing student came in to the office. I told him I envied him! I really wanted to be a nurse since I was a kid, but it was too late, there was no way I could finish highschool working full time.

Well, this wonderful person told me: "you can still do it, there is a pre-health program. If you do a year of that and get the required average, they will take you into the program!"

I am so thankful to him! I went off on maturnity leave, went to the pre-health program in january all through the summer, and got into BScN this september!

Best advice I ever had, and best decision I ever made... :yeah:
