10 years LVN,new grad RN and still hard to find a job

Nurses New Nurse

Published

I am new to posting but not new to allnurses. I love reading everybody's post so I muddled up the courage to post my own. I have been a nurse from CNA to LVN for about 12 years now with experience in subacute Peds and Adults. For some reason, after I graduated, I had my hopes up that I would find a job somewhere as an RN. Of course not right away but I just thought that with my experience in the nursing world someone would give me a chance, but I guess it doesnt matter. I have made many applications and I don't mind starting anywhere but still I get rejection letters saying they have moved on to someone with more experience. It's just so frustrating and I'm sure most of you know that already, that you have experience and you know you would be great nurse if only someone would give you that chance. But still everywhere I see, "1 year minimum experienced preferred." Its amazing how many jobs are out there and all require that, very frustrating:crying2:.But like I said, if only someone would give you that 1 year that you need. I loved working ICU or Med/Surg during my clinicals ,but if there was something else meant for me to do I would gladly take the job. I was just venting. Well thanks for reading my post , sorry if this was a little lengthy and wasted your time, just wanted to see if there are other nurses feeling the same frustration.:)

:nurse:

I'm in the same boat, no one will give me a chance :sniff: It's disheartening. It almost makes me think, what was the point of going to school for 4 years if no one will give me the chance to prove myself?????

It is very disheartening samea, I keep on hearing because of the economy hospitals dont want to pay to train a new grad. Its hard, after all this hard work for years and waiting to get into a program and then finally graduating after studying your butt off noone is willing to take a chance and train you for the job and barely enough positions in residency programs for new grads, some wont even look at you unless you have a bachelors.:sniff:

Specializes in Pediatric Hem/Onc.

Yup.....it sucks. I feel your pain, as do countless others.

The hospital where I did my clinical rotations at gave the lpn-rn students 1/2 credit if they were a lpn for 10 years it counted as 5 years rn.

Specializes in Med-surg, NICU.

You're not alone... I graduated in Dec 2010 and JUST found a job on June 20th. So I understand waiting for months and not hearing anything... just a little suggestion, for the longest time I avoided applying for the jobs that said experience required, which as you know really limits the # of jobs you can apply for.. Well I called an HR department at one of the hospitals here in Chicago to ask if they hire new grads at all because all listings said experience required. She was like "oh yeah we take new grads", well how are we supposed to know that when every posting says they want experience? So I started applying for any and all positions I was interested in and in the end was offered a job whose posting said experience required. Also, I don't know about where you are but in Chicago some of the big hospitals have new grad internships and I kept applying for those. Well, that's where ALL new grads are applying and up here those positions are held for those who worked as externs/interns or had a clinical there in school. So don't take it personally if you don't hear back from those facilities, chances are you never stood a chance. Look for the smaller hospitals. This was my experience at least. Good luck!

thanks so much Chicago for the reply ,I will do just that, I wont give up, hopefully someone out there will hire me and if not maybe I will just go back to school =) but I appreciate your advise
