I'm in my CNA program, and already looking into LVN programs in my area. RN programs are out of the question...we only have 2 and the wait list is insanly long!!!!
The only 2 I could afford (LVN) It requires 9 months of prereqs, 1 year-18 months of waiting, the 2 years of PT classes (for working individuals, full time 12 month programs require you to have no job )
Thats 4+years!! It seems like an eternety!! I'll be 28 by then.
I'm so excited about nursing; Even though I'll just be a CNA I can't wait!
I just wish I had the money for the $30K LVN program:( I have a Loan from my AA degree in General Studies I recieved at my local community college waiting to be accepted into the RN program, so I don't think I could afford another loan.
I;m going to do it, im juts bummed it's going to have taken all of my 20's to even get close to being an RN.
I think a lot of people in here are right. I have to wait until 2012 to start the program and I'm 33 Oh Gosh I'll be really old by then but like people said you'll be an age no matter what. 2012 will come and go...just like 2009 came so fast...sometimes I wonder what happened to the year 2000. At least you're only 24, not 33 like me.
You can get a lot of financial aid for your undergrad. I didnt use Finacial Aid for my Associates, but I did use about 33 thousand for my two bachelors, and the limit is about 60 thousand. If it's your dream, don't let the waiting periods stop you. I wouldn't go to a highly priced school, (maybe if i had the money), but the wierd thing is...I looked at a private school, the cost was crazy, but I compared the NCLEX passing scores, and wierdly enough...the Community College 2 year program had higher passing rates than some private schools.
You'd still be eligiable for grants as well because you haven't gotten your Bachelors yet. Unlike me, I'm only allowed loans. I'm going to apply for scholarships from private plans for nursing students.

Once you start working you will stop talking about "How old" you are!!! When you see people in their 90's every day you will know just how young 33 is! 33, dear god, I barely knew myself then! LOL stay young at heart, it's the best way to live!!
I also have only student loans for an option. I already hold a Bachelors degree and I wont qualify for financial aid unless it's pure loans. Their whole deal is "well you have a bachelors degree, you can work and make money while YOU'RE IN NURSING SCHOOL" yeah right!!!!! We have to limit our hours because of nursing school. It really sucks being poor in school with a bachelors degree LOL.

When I was 32 I started working on a BS degree in manufacturing engineering. It took me 7 years to finish it going part time while I was working. Now I'm 52 and just recently finished LVN school and landed my first nursing job. Believe me when I say, age is just a number.
