I don't know enough about what is involved in a psychiatric nursing degree in Ireland to speak specifically to your situation, but I can tell you that the US educates and licenses all RNs as generalists -- you must have completed a specified number of hours of didactic (classroom) and clinical experience in adult med-surg, peds, OB, and psych in order to be eligible for licensure. This is true in any US state. If you have those hours/experiences, you'll probably be okay; if not, you're going to have trouble qualifying for licensure. Different countries have different models of nursing education -- there's no such thing in the US as being educated and licensed specifically as a psychiatric nurse.
Well, we would have had a full schedule (sept-jun), as in 39 hours per week lectures (chemistry, biology, sociology, psychiatry, psychopharmacology, pharmacology and then discipline specific modules like psychotherapeutic interventions etc).. We would have had 12 weeks each college year of clinical placements (39 hours per week). In my internship I have a 9 month placement in an acute psychiatric admission unit. Id have had specialist placements along the way such as psycho geriatric, 6 weeks general placement (med/surg), community, psychiatry of later life etc... Thanks for you reply by the way.

Other than dealing with Immigration, you will need a green card and social security card to work in US.In terms of nursing you will have to take the NCLEX exam. The nursing board in each state will give you directions on what educational requirements are needed. This will all be very time consuming and the job situation for new grads here are limited and very competitive.I'm not sure if I answered your question, but good luck...
