3 year old with trach/mickey tube (fdg)

Published

Hi...

I have been in nursing for 31 years for the elderly. Now I am doing part time as a private duty nursing for a 3 year old. I need any information out there. Like cpr... vitals... etc. Anything would be appreciated. He does have a trach and a fdg tube but able to eat po.

I'm a peds trach/airway nurse. Before accepting care for this pt, it would be wise to have training in trach cpr. It differs a little from regular cpr. Contact the airway department at your local peds hospital for more information. You should also know how to change his trach and trach ties, how to perform pre-measured suction, and skin and stoma care. You need to know what has to be in his emergency supply bag, too.

As far as the g-tube, it's easy to learn. Again your local children's hospital may be able to help you.
