If you're staying in Mesa, the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior is worth the drive. A VERY early morning trip the Superstitions, maybe to Lost Dutchman State Park, or the Peralta trail would be nice. If you do anything in the desert, make sure you take lots of water, a hat, and sunscreen.

We all make mistakes--perfection is an impossible goal--but never give up your high standards. What's important is to learn how not to beat yourself up over the mistakes. Learn from the situation, fix it, and go on. That can be a very hard thing to do when you're a perfectionist, but you'll learn that skill just as you have so many others.

I work there full-time. If you really want peds, I think PCH is one of the best places in the Valley to work. The new-grad program is very good training. I feel very supported by my co-workers and manager, and truly enjoy the work I do. If you have other questions about PCH, PM me.

At my school it was a final senior project. It was quite involved, research based, and was supposed to address an issue on the nursing unit where we did our final leadership rotation.

I joined STTI when invited. It hasn't made any day to day difference at work; I didn't expect it to. But I do like being able to list it as a professional organization on bios or resumes. It's an honor not offered to everyone, and it's much harder to gain membership once you're out of school. If you can afford it, I'd say join. If you decide it's not worth it, you can always let your membership lapse when it's time for renewal next year. Hi Chicken, my situation was similar to yours. I chose to get my BSN because I thought that I'd want to get a graduate degree in nursing a little later on. It was going to take me the same amount of time to do ADN or BSN because of prior university course work. By getting my BSN right away I wouldn't have to do a bridge from ADN to BSN later. I had no problem getting into ASU, and graduated in May 2005. I was hired by the hospital of my choice, for day shift, before I graduated. While I was going through ASU's program, I knew people going through MCC's program. The programs are similar, and yes, ASU does have plenty of clinical hours. That was something I stressed about a lot. It was needless stress. Each program has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Each program does a good job of preparing entry-level nurses. The nurses who hired on at the same time I did, who have ADN degrees, do exactly the same work. We get the same pay. We were equally well prepared to be entry-level nurses. What it comes down to is your plans for your future. If you're considering a graduate degree in nursing, I'd advise going straight for the BSN. If you're considering a graduate degree in a different field, the BS you already have may be enough. Good luck to you. jgwe4e

That area is in south Scottsdale, the older part of town. It's much more reasonably priced than north Scottsdale, and you might be able to find something quite near the hospital. Good luck to you.

Good things at work: -There is always someone I can turn to with questions who will not belittle me or tell me I "should" know it (even if that is what they think.) -There is always someone who will come and look at a patient with me if I think they need a second opinion. -The nurses and aides and secretaries are almost ALL kind, caring, intelligent and patient advocates. -I work with kids! :) :) :) -Almost all our doctors are easy to talk to. :yeahthat: And I get to cross-train to work in one of our specialty outpatient clinics.

We keep ours in a small nursing chart which is filed beside the large pt chart at the nurses station. It normally has 2-3 days of flow sheets, med sheets, and the care plans.

[color=#202020] [color=#202020]a lot! i delivered an 8# 10oz baby with no meds. two years later i delievered a 10# 7oz baby with no meds. those two pounds meant the difference between an easy delivery with the first and shoulder dystocia with the second. baby needed to be in icu for resp distress, had trouble weaning to room air, but no other sequelae.

I couldn't swallow pills until I was 18--I was terrified of choking. I had to take a couple different allergy meds every day, and I chewed them. One day I realized that one of the meds was no bigger than a red hot (cinnamon candy), and that I swallowed bites of food bigger than that. I tried to swallow my tiny pill, and succeeded. Eventually I was brave enough to try swallowing my larger meds. Once in a while I still can't get a large vitamin or calcium to go down, but I can get regular meds down pretty easily most days.

What are this hospital's strengths? What is most frustrating? What are the weaknesses? What are typical nurse-pt ratios? What specialty programs does Children's have? Is there a trach/airway program? How does the pay compare to other hospitals in the area? What is the parking like? Besides Akron Children's, where else are peds nurses working in the Akron area?
