Okay, I know it's early, but Yale is my first choice, and I'm already terrified that I'm going to screw it up. My goal is New England (although I'm also applying to Pace because they have this Science Summer thing for those of us who haven't taken anatomy yet), and I want to be a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner.
I eventually want to either have a mobile clinic for poorer older folks who can't afford more traditional options or who are home-bound, or make home-calls in some other way.
I think Yale will help me get there, but I don't think I'll get in. I have a lower GPA (but still above a 3.0) from UC Santa Cruz, and I spent the last two years teaching in Taiwan, only to find out I don't like teaching very much. I'm taking my GREs in three weeks and I'm starting some prereqs this summer.
I'm also applying to Simmons, Pace, Northeastern, MGH and Boston College.
Before I ramble on any longer, anyone else applying?
I would also love the online chat transcript.
thanks!
Dee, I remember hearing that the average GPA was 3.47, but I don't think there is a minimum , you should still try, you might surprise yourself!!! I'm sure they look at other things other than just GPA.
I know that Columbia, BC, UPenn, all have direct entry. I think northeastern has a program as well, but I believe that it is 4 years while all the others are 3 years. I hope that helps!
Thanks for the advice.I am having a bit of a problem and I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem. Now I finally got my PS down to 2 pages! I'm not done, but I went to copy and paste it into the box on the online application. When I did this, it changed the font. I re-copied the PS and pasted it into a word document and it changed the font to 12, monaco. This made it 5 pages long :0 Now it said on the application you could use 11 point font, so that's what I did (I used Times New Roman too). Does this mean that i have to do some major copying and pasting or will they change it? Has anyone else encountered this problem? I'm so nervous that I'm going to have to do this whole thing over again.
Yes, the same thing happened to me!! I was wondering how they would know what our original font sizes and styles were. Hopefully, this will not count against us in any way.....
i heard back from ******today. here's what she had to say:
basically, if you're really worried about your font, email it to her. however, seeing as i finally got my essay to just under two pages at 12pt. times new roman, i'll be submitting it via electronic application.the online system automatically changes the font. it’s an annoying problem to say the least! my suggestion is to write a note in the box that you are submitting the statement to me via email. i can just print it out and add it to your file. just keep in mind that you should have regular 1” margins and a regular font like times new roman or arial 11pt at the smallest. no arial narrow… or tricky fonts. you really will want the faculty members to be able to easily read your essay. no need to get them annoyed by using a difficult to read font. and feel free to share this info on discussion boards, etc… so that the word gets out. however, i’m hoping that not everyone will be emailing a separate essay to me…
hope that helps everyone!
I'd appreciate a copy of the chat as well. Thanks!

Anyone who wants a copy of the online chat is going to have to send me their email address, because I can't paste it into a pm here. Thanks!
Hi, Dee! There's no such thing as late. Personally, I want to know everyone who's applying, to see who my potential future classmates are (provided we all get in of course!).
I know that they say a 3.0 is considered competitive, but I don't know if there's an actual minimum. And don't feel bad about a low period in your academic career. You're not alone! I was put on academic probation for a period in my second year. I have no idea how much this is going to hurt me, but I'm applying anyway. To use a cliche: You never know until you try.
