It's probably too soon to start this thread- anyone else out there?

Did not get in for psych either. eb86 I think I remember them saying at interviews that they usually only do waitlists for family and midwifery. Where are you planning to go instead? I'm probably going to BC unless I get off the waitlist at Penn.[/quote']

I am 99% going to Penn lol. Had the visiting day today and still love it. But I am going to Columbia's visiting day next week before I put my deposit down, just to be fair ;) Did Penn tell you when you should know about their waitlist?

Hey Mzaur, what not good things did you hear? I am choosing between BC (scholarship) and Yale, but was leaning towards Yale because I loved what I saw and heard during visiting day. I also got into Vanderbilt, but haven't looked much into it. Was planning on passing on MGH, Columbia, and OHSU and Northeastern if I get into those latter two. Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.

I've heard many negatives from alumni. I don't want to go into specifics, but mainly it has to do with high faculty turnover and students needing to repeat courses, as well as issues with clinical placements due to administrative problems. Quite surprising since this is Yale, and I was also impressed on my interview day, but just wanted to pass this info along. My suggestion is to go to either BC or Vanderbilt.

Got wait-listed for FNP!!! Decided to accept MGH offer (scholarship) vs. Northeastern. Congrats who are in! Good luck!

Made an account a couple months back and completely forgot about it - but I've found my way back since finding out that I'm in for psych!

Congrats to everyone! This is truly exciting. :)

To add to what others have said, I have also heard fairly negative things about the psych concentration from current and former students and am pretty sure I'll be declining my spot and scholarship as a result. Same sorts of issues that have already been mentioned; high faculty turnover and concerns of some important faculty leaving next year (which is a big deal since there are only 3 full time faculty for psych), administration issues, difficulty finding clinical placements, students having to repeat classes and/or being held back an entire year due to administrative stuff. Sounds too risky. I was really taken back by all of the negative accounts I've heard because I was totally sold after my interview. I'm between UCSF and BC at the moment.

Are theses issues unique to the psych concentration, or it across all np specialities?

I've only spoken to current psych students and psych NPs who finished over the last few years. I'd definitely recommend asking if the admissions office can put you in touch with current students if you have questions about your specialty--they've been very willing to connect people as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the info everybody. I am going to get in touch with some students ASAP.

thanks for the advice! I also recently heard some pretty negative things from a current student in the midwifery program. the people i met at interview day were great, but now im thinking i will likely decline and go with a different program ( partially bc i dont care for new haven and the chilly east coast weather :) ) in the end, everyone just meshes differently with different schools. best of luck in your decisions!

Is anybody here who is declining a spot in Family NP program?
