X-Rays + Flatbed Scanners.....OK Idea?

Published

OK, so here's the deal. I have a bunch of assorted X-Rays of me/mine in my possesion right now cause i'm going from one medical system to another, and what i'm wondering is, if I were to put any of those x-rays in my scanner to try and get some sort of copies, would the bright light from the scanner harm the x-rays in any way?

It shouldn't do (she says crossing her fingers) because we use a fairly bright light to examine the X-ray but most places will want to look at the original simply because you loose too much resolution and detail in a copy.

Another suggestion: If your PCP is affiliated w/a hospital whose Imaging Dept has gone all-digital, i.e., has some sort of PACS system in use, inquire about this: s/he can submit your hard films to get entered into the hospital's system, then see if they can make a CD for your files at home. Good luck.

Agree w/Gwenith, the bright light shouldn't bother the films but detail will suffer.

Yah see, I'm not that concerned about any loss of resolution or anything, I don't want them for anything important at all, alls I want them for is to mess around and maybe make an AV or something for forums like this.

I'm off to see a new Doctor tomorrow and I just didn't want to ruin the x-rays, but at the same time, i'm to damned snoopy and I want to make some copies also :chuckle

I've already burned a copy of a CD of a catscan that I also have........

Kid in a candy store I am sometimes.....:p

Thanks for your input ;)

Ooooh, someone let me know about this! My scanner is too small, but I am wondering if it's possible to copy X-rays somehow so that they are printed out like a black-and-white photo and can be framed like a regular picture.

I have a KUB of my mother, taken when she was 7-8 months pregnant with me. (Yes, we know X-rays of pregnant women are a no-no, but it was medically necessary.) You can see my little fetal skeleton curled up in there, clear as day. Very cool X-ray, and I'd love to display it somehow.

I'll post back with what I come up with.

I'll get them scanned tonight, but not to sure if i'll get to the image editing part(s) of it or not (if there is any) :)
