was i wrong?

when receiving report is it wrong to question whether certain info was reported to md, i was questioning fairly new nurse about pt. she was giving me as she had spoke to md a few times during her shift about pt. she was also giving conflicting info on pt which had me confused, i was just trying to find out if she had repoted certain labs and tests done during her shift so when i called i wouldn't repeat same things. well she came in the next day very upset and i got reported to nurse manager, i wasn't trying to be harsh on her i just was trying to get info on pt. i feel awful about this.

These new nurses need to get thicker skin, we have had one that will cry if her assignment is too hard and she has been a nurse for a year now. She has had many med errors and problems with other nurses. You need to be clear of what is going on with your patients before you go in the room!!!!

I would tell it like it is and that if this nurse has a problem then she needs to be an adult and talk to you first before running to others.

@suanna: How on earth do you request someone's resignation "supportively?" It sounds as though you're being offered a free bra upon resignation....Sorry to hear that you're in that sort of situation. I'd much rather have people ask me a dozen questions than find out someone suffered because of my mistake or lapse. Again, we can all work on how we ask people questions, but to avoid them entirely in order to preserve someone's oversensitive feelings doesn't exactly sound fair to the patient!

dudette, i might have looked/acted pertubed but i wasn't doing it personally, i was just trying to clarify some conflicting info i was given in report, i got reported for making her upset, for being ''mean'' i don't know. will change my approach next time.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that you made it personal. Morning report is SO chaotic! I can see why it would get a little annoying to have to sift through conflicting info to get what you need to do your job when you have 3-5 other patients to get report on and the time to morning meds is ticking! :)

thanks dudette i appreciate your response
