Writing RX as a nurse

Published

can an RN in the state of Tx write prescriptions? i work at a private pediatirc office. i am an LVN and the RN who works above me is trying to get me to write them. i am not sure if either one of us has the authority! any input welcome, i have tried to research it but have had no luck!

thanks alot

I used to call in refills all the time for the doc and NPs that I worked with. We had some pretty strict guidelines--had to have been seen in the last year, with certain conditions had to have blood work done recently, with psych meds had to have been seen in the office within last three months or according to their plan of care.

I never called in new scripts that I wrote independently. Even if there are protocols in place, I'm not sure that is legal. Are those the only ones that she writes, for UTIs, or does she do others, too?
