Hi,
I'm applying to FNP programs. My manager wants me to write the letter of recommendation for myself and for him to just mail it. That great but I have never written a recommendation before. Anyone have some samples they recieved previously? or ideas what to include? Thanks!

I've been in the same position in the past. I think it's best to write any letter like a woman's skirt...long enough to cover the subject and short enough to keep the reader interested. Something like...
It is my pleasure to recommend Suzy So-and-so for admittance to the NP program at Such-and-such University.
I am currently Suzy's supervisor in the Whatever Dept. and have observed her work ethic, habits, and skills over the past _______ years. In addition to providing excellent patient care, Suzy has served on the Very Important Committee here at Healthy Hospital. She has been a pleasure to work with and has received many compliments from both patients and their family members.
Although Suzy will be missed by many here at Healthy Hospital, I support her decision to further her education so she can provide greater patient care in the future. Please feel free to contact me should you require further information about this recommendation.

Obviously, you know what you paragraph 2 should highlight...any committees you've been on, awards received, areas of special interest that have been evident on this current job, etc.

I think it is incredibly lazy for someone to tell you to write your own reference.
So I suggest you take advantage of it e.g. mon - fri "walks on water"....sat - sun "parts red sea".
