Does anyone know of any law or official documentation that addresses writing on the fetal monitor strip? Are people still documenting on the strip if they are doing elelctronic record? If anyone knows of any references, could you please list them? Thanks ahead of time. I am starting in a brand new unit in a brand new hospital - so we are writing the policies ourselves. :typing
The first two are books I personally own and do recommend: (the last is one I want to acquire)

these are great books to be used as reference material in any OB unit.

Check with Michelle Murray. She is the monitoring guru. She can give you the best advise. Her fetal monitoring courses are awesome.

SORRY I see you are writing the policy yourselves----duh, I missed that. IF you are using computerized charting, I would not recommend writing on strips unless under dire straits-----like STAT procedures, responding to very non-reassuring FHT etc. Really it IS duplication and like said before me, if timing or specifics are "off" this invites a lot of problems if/when legal issues ensue.
Good luck. If you do write on strips, follow any recommendations by Dr. Murray/Lisa Miller and NEVER write illegibly or over the data from the monitor.
