I have completed the CVS (Credentials Verification Service) so all my credentials have been verified. I now wish to write the CGFNS test. But this test seems to be only offered through the CP (Certification Program). What's the difference CVS and CP? Who would take CP? Who who take CVS?
I want to just write the CGFNS test to get a nursing job in the Gulf (Middle East) as a local hire. The hospital I wish to work in requires the CGFNS test (but they haven't heard of NCLEX-RN). I don't want to have to resubmit forms and repay fees again to verify my credentials AGAIN just to write the CGFNS test. I have already done this and my credentials have been verified. Is it possible to apply to take the CGFNS test without going through the CP process?
After working for a few years in the Gulf, I intend to work as an RN in the US. Is there any advantage for having passed the CGFNS and the NCLEX-RN in the US? Are the tests similar?

CVS is just for New York board of nursing. CP is another process and application therefore involves other fees. Not sure why they want CGFNS exam when that is for the US? Each exam is different

Hi snoopyleader,
Documents evaluated under CVS will no longer be re-evaluated under CP process. NO need to resubmitted for the documents they already have. You may need to submit other required documents. Also you have to pay for separate fees for the CGFNS certification. Same thing goes for the VISA SCREEN.

CVS is not a credentials evaluation as many think. It is just a special process that obtains the required documents for NY for them to issue a license as an RN. Nothing more than that if you look at it in those terms. There is no evaluation involved from the side of CGFNS. And that is why it is called a Credentials Verification.
The CES is the the credentials evaluation for CGFNS and what most states are requesting.
The CGFNS exam is a screening exam only and does not get one a license in the US to practice as an RN. Other countries may use it, but the US does not accept it for licensure; it is purely a screening exam and nothing more.
If I understand you correctlly, passing the CP requirements is sufficient for a foreign-educated nurse (like me) to pratice nursing in the US (in which state I haven't decided). The requirements: CGFNS test, IELTS, NCLEX, and the verification of my credentials (nursing college & foreign nursing licensing body). Is this correct? Would it have been sufficient to complete only CP and not the CVS? Is doing CP or CVS sufficient?
TO nurse as RN in the US you have to pass NCLEX. CVS is only required if you are looking at nursing in NY so only do it if that is a requirement. Unless the state requires it there is no need to pass CGFNS exam, most states only require CES from CGFNS. With retrogression you have plenty of time to decide which state you want to work and apply to their BON the only exception would be if the state does not give license without SSN like Ca and plenty has been written about that including as a sticky
CP means Consular Processing, and all documents will need to be submitted to immigration as part of their processing. CP is not an exam, nor is the CES. I think that you have some of the acronyms confused.
CVS is a special verification for NY and NY alone, it is not a credentials eval. The only thing that is required by immigration is that you pass the NCLEX-RN exam as well as the English exams and have a Visa Screen Certificate in hand, anything else is just extra. The CGFNS exam is not required if you have taken the NCLEX exam already for immigration.
CGFNS has only been a weeding out exam from the beginning and is no longer needed except for just a couple of states in the US. It used to be required when there were no NCLEX exams given out of the US and its territories. But that is no longer the case.
If a country is still requiring the CGFNS exam that was designed for the US and that alone, it means that they are going by old standards and have not updated anything.
The verification of your credentials would have been done before you were able to either write the NCLEX-RN or CGFNS exam.
