Wright State Nursing School!

U.S.A. Ohio

I'm finishing up some pre-reqs and starting my nursing program in March. Anyone else Wright State students?

NC

I'm at WSU too...I graduate in Nov 09

Specializes in Rehab, CICU, ICU Pulmonary, ER, OB.

I am a none traditional student too! I have an associates in medical office management and also went to sinclair for EMS. I was on the waiting list at sinclair but it was ridiculous so now I am getting ready to start my first quarter at WSU in the winter. I will either be applying for the Fall 09 class or for spring 2010. I need to pick up my GPA some so that I can be competitive when I apply. I only have A&P, micro and chem to do, so I am going to start doing some of the gen elect's and free elects to fill my time until I get into the program. Good luck everyone!

Anyone working at a local hospital? I am at MVH and love it there. The tuition assistance is amazing!

I'm just starting at WSU too. I started this fall. If you need to do Sociology 200 get Dr.Guzzo he is great, the class is easy.

What is your job at MVH? Do you think you will be able to balance school and work? Also winter intersession starts in December if your interested. Classes are offered for 4 weeks Dec 1-19. They don't offer a lot but you may be able to get some gen ed's out of the way. There is a medical and science terminology course online that i'm going to do,its not required but I think it would help. I also may do economics but I don't know yet.

THANKS! I am planning to take Soc in the winter, I'll definitely look for that prof. I am a PCT/HUC, I just went from a demanding unit to a more laid back unit. I am only 16 hours/week so it's only every other monday, weekend and friday. I don't think I'll have much trouble working 16hrs but if I do then I'll just drop down to support, which I am already planning to do the last few quarters of NS just because of the spring track having a few 17crd/hr quarters. But we'll see how my kids are, plus work and how school is going before I completely decide on what to do. I plan on taking econ. for one of my electives. The electives aren't that appealing are they? LOL

When do you plan on applying to the program? I plan on taking it slow and kicking butt on my GPA so that when I apply I will definitely get in, the counselors said that if you have a 3.2/3.3 your pretty much in, so that is my goal! Although I would like a 3.5 or higher!

I'm taking it slow right now. I actually transfered from Miami and got accepted late for fall so Sociology was the only class open. It's really easy.

I'm going to do a Science/Medical terminology course online during the winter interession. Then for the full winter quarter i'm doing Organic Chem, Classics 150 (the roman/greek class), and an Anthropology class (CST 241). I know someone doing Chem right now and she said it was hard.

I hope to apply by spring 2010. I plan on doing some classes in the summer too (non science) probably whatever gen eds I have left.

Have you looked at the sample curriculum? What is there to take that is 2 credits for an elective?

I did english at my other school so that transfered. I also took 1 psych course which knocked out both psych classes at WSU, I was happy about that.

I am planning to take organic chem in the winter too. I don't know that there is any elective for 2 cr. hrs.?

I am planning to take soc 200, stats (if I test into it if not whatever I test into math wise) and chem 102 in the winter.

The classes I am transferring in our eng 101/102, psych 105/110/341, chem 101, bio 105 and nur 210. So you were only able to transfer your eng and a psych? Did you have to take the math placement test?

ETA: I found out in my face to face with a counselor that if I take 30cr. hrs. before I apply to the nursing program they ONLY look at the GPA from WSU! I am so excited and glad to hear that!

I know thats great. I didn't place into stats, I knew most of the stuff on the placement test but it sucked I couldn't use my scientific calculator. Some stuff on the test I only learned how to do on a scientific calculator.

My english, psych, and an art class transfered. I did A&P but the counselor said it would only transfer to some athletic training course. So I'll have to retake that but its ok.

I want to get all of my gen ed's done (including sciences) before I apply. That way I don't have to worry about having to do a non-nursing class in nursing school, I think it would be too hard. When I was at Miami there were a few ladies who had to finsih the 2nd part of A&P while in nursing school and having clinicals. There is no way I could do that.

I'm also thinking about getting all my gen eds done and then doing my sciences one quarter at a time. I'm in no hurry to get into the program i'm still young. Since its strongly based on gpa I'd rather take my time and with the sciences and focus on them. I did A&P at Miami and it wasn't hard per say but I think I could have done a lot better. Also if I do all my gen eds I'd have an idea what my gpa is and hopefully make me more confident heading into the sciences. I think I could knock out the gen eds by summer, if not sooner.

I am hoping that I place in stats so that I don't have to take extra classes. I am only 25 but I have 3 kids so time is wasting! I have my quarters pretty much planned out, one science per quarter along with the other classes required to apply. I should be done with all my sciences before I start the program or I might have to take the last A&P with the first NS quarter. But that's ok because I have already done one of the NUR classes that quarter.

Ok, have to run... got to go to WSU and pay my app fee.

How long was sinclair's waiting list? I've heard its crazy.

I have my quarters planned out too. I just go off the list of gen eds, its not that hard to figure out what you need. I am mad that you need Organic Chem before you can take A&P. Chem is the one science i'm not looking forward to doing. Luickly I got out of regular chem and bio thanks to highschool grades.

Sinclairs wait list is over the top! Like 2-3 years. Plus if a H.S. student was tech prep in H.S. they go to top of the list. I waited almost 2.5 years and still had about a 2-3 quarter wait, so I got mad made a bad decision and left, so then I would have had to wait all over again. I like that WSU is GPA based, if it was that way at sinclair I would have been in right away.

Yeah, I'm not a chem fan either. I have my old chem for dummies book out and ready LOL.

Are you going to school days or evenings?

Yeah that 30 hours at Wright State is great!

Right now my Soc class is at night but winter quarter will be during the day. If I take Chem in winter it will be at night/afternoon though, it seems the only time it is offered is at 4pm.
