HEllo, I am new to allnurses, I am also new to Atlanta Georgia. I really want to get into the nursing field I thought it would be easier to start with the LPN program but Heck I cant find one that doesnt have a long wait list

are there any new schools out there to support the high demand?

I'm not familiar with any answers to your question, but I would suggest if there aren't programs, there may not be jobs to fill with graduates in your area. Just a guess...I understand LVN/LPNs aren't used everywhere so there isn't the demand. Have you checked on the LPN thread?!?!

I would suggest concentrating on working toward your RN. If you don't have all the prereqs, coreqs, etc., I'd start taking those and looking in to the local programs. Apply as soon as possible and keep taking the other classes in the meantime.

Good luck!!

Thanks!

There's also a thread for the state of Georgia, and you can try checking in there to see if anyone has any info for you!!

I would probably encourage you to apply to BOTH LPN and RN programs, and see which one you happen to get into.

Getting your LPN first, assuming you want to be an RN, and then going to an RN bridge program, will take you longer than getting your RN to start with.

Just an option.

Yes The Goal is to become a RN. I did apply to both LPN and RN programs. the LPN programs have wait list and the Rn is more competitive in nature they dont keep a wait list but they take new students based on gpa is what i heard, thats at Georgia perimeter but after reading so many horrible post about georgia perimeter i am almost afraid to go there.

The lpn program is one year and I could bridge over and thats another year so i guess they equal out to 2 years.
