I am a Medical Imaging RN. Where I live...RN's are not allowed to push contrast or operate the power injector. I start the IV's, administer IV Lopressor, Versed and Sublamaze among others.

I'm guessing that is just an institutional policy where you work? I think our scope of practice in NY allows this...

I'm not in NY, so my post might not be that helpful. However, my workplace sponsored me so that I could attend an IV therapy certification class that was free of charge to me. It cost several hundred dollars but, since my workplace was sponsoring my attendance, they paid the bill in full. Therefore, I paid absolutely nothing out of pocket. You may wish to discover whether your workplace will pay for your attendance to an IV therapy class. Good luck to you!

the problem is I work there per diem for an agency.... no such luck

Here's the brighter side. . . If you pay the $200 for the IV therapy class, you can deduct it off next year's income taxes, because it counts as a work-related expense. Any work-related expenses can be deducted and itemized, such as uniforms, shoes, stethoscopes, continuing education, ink pens, and so forth.
