There were a number of students in my class that only had the minimum requirement. They all are doing fine.

To answer your question, I guess whether or not you can get into a program and succeed will depend, in part, how comfortable you become in an ICU after only a year of experience. Some people just figure it out faster than others, which seems to me mutually exclusive of their intellectual capabilities. Would it be safe to assume that you are still in nursing school? If you are, it would certainly behoove you to apply yourself now and maximize the learning experience, as you will only short change yourself if you cut corners at any point of your education. Working in a busy teaching hospital ICU as a new grad has a learning curve of about 90 degrees, but I know plenty of people who did just fine- myself included. Best of luck!

It's very individualized. Most schools look at the big picture, so what a person may lack in one criteria, they may make up for in another. I think, if you want to be competitive with the min. experience, then you will need to have a fairly competitive GPA and GRE, not just the minimums. I would contact the schools you are interested in and ask how many years their current students have on matriculation. Minimum requirements listed for a schools admission criteria may be very different from than the stats that they actually accept. It can be done. Good luck.
