Honestly, the fact that you have contact with patients is probably the key. I think hospice or home care would be wonderful. I wouldn't turn it down if you could get in there prn. Howeve,r, I don't know if I'd change jobs if you like your job, but I couldn't tell from the post if you did or not.
Pediatric home health gives you lots of experience with g-tubes, trachs, and vents. Better yet, if you work nights, you have lots of time to study while the little one sleeps. This is what I'm doing now and it allows me to really maximize my study time.
The drawback to this is that you become a little relaxed because you are in the home environment and things aren't always done "by the book". For example, suctioning and caths are performed using clean technique rather than sterile.
Once I get closer to CPNE I plan to get a part time job at either a rehab facility or LTAC facility. I figure this will get me back into the swing of things, allow me to re-learn my time management skills, and hopefully get acquainted with IV therapy.

There's no reason why you couldn't go into the hospitals to work. I know that up here in NE Ohio lpn's are still working in the hospitals. If you want something that will help with putting into practice what you're learning, try a short stay rehab unit at an LTC facility. I work in one, and I get exposed to plenty. People come to these units and some of them are still quite sick. It's just like working in a hospital.
Thanks Lpn1313, I'm relocating back to Dayton ohio, the hospitsl near me would be Greene Memorial (they do not hire LPN's) Miami Valley Hospital (also do not hire LPN's) and a handful in Cincy (which is really too far to drive) thus the reason i am looking to see where i should work for the BEST clinical experiance possible. I will look into some of the LTC's that have Rehab, i would imagine there are some, though i dont know any off hand. THanks for the info!

I currently work as a clinic nurse and i've done home health, but when i move home i'm kinda wondering where i should work to get the most "clinical" experiance. In Ohio LPN's dont work in hospitals so i'm limited to the following: LTC, Clinic/Dr. office, Home Health, Hospice...what in your opinions would be the best route for me while taking my tests through EC? I have a job offer for pediatric home health so far, and my MIL works for hospice so i can probably get in there as well at least PRN. Thoughts??? thanks:confused:
