Would you or wouldn't you?

This may seem like a petty issue, but....

My neighbor just called while I was napping.. so I will be calling her back. Her grandma is in from another state and needs her B-12 shot. They want to know if I will come over and give it.

I do not feel comfortable doing invasive proceedures out side of my work facility, nor without a physcians' order. For one thing, if something goes wrong (the minute chance of an abcess, etc...) I could be held responsible.

I am not comfortable with this, but my husband thinks I am over concerned. "It's just a B-12 shot, afterall!"

I can't believe that after 24 years of nursing, this is the first time I have had to deal with being asked to give a shot outside of my work facility!

What would you do?

LOVE LOVE LOVE this reply!

LOLOL must have missed this one - well i hate to admit it but yeah i have asked neigbors with skills tohelp out lol. in small town egypot we do that - but to abuse the privalege is wheree it gets annoying ( like expecting it without asking first and expecting it for extended family...) totally differnet situation when involving extended people - would be like me asking my friend to unclog my toiplet then going to my dads later to do his lol. hugs

I think you handled this very well. It would have made a difference to me if it were a life-threatening emergency, but I sure wouldn't give anyone but my immediate family a B-12 injection. Besides, my employer's liability insurance sure wouldn't cover me.

never rely on your employers insurance either - thier ins will cover mistakes but if its you who makes the mistake you can bet they will turn on you in a heartbeat and you will be liable - get insurance- its cheap enough for anyone. and not something you shoudl rely on with your employer who will likely NOT stand behind your mistake . just my opinion. hugs
