Hi! I am a student nurse and would want to research about how the level of knowledge the nursing students affects their capability or use of the nursing process. But i would want to narrow it down to just researching about what does the level of knowledge of us nursing students in providing intervention to our clients. So, i would just want to focus in the intervention phase. Would just want to ask if that would be possible or if that would be feasible. Thanks!!hoping for your help! :D

i would recommend you start by rewriting your problem statement. i think you a lot of words out. :D (i did that on purpose.) then maybe we can help.

i am assuming this is for school-- have you asked your faculty for any guidance? what did they say?

They just told us that it would be a good problem but maybe we could state our problem more clearer. :D but that is the problem. We couldn't think much on what words would be perfect or appropriate. Maybe this? "How does the level of knowledge of nursing students affect their plan of intervention in nursing care" could this be a somewhat good research problem statement? Thanks!! :)

I guess you need to be a little bit more specific about "nursing interventions/care". Do you mean effectiveness of nursing interventions? Comprehensiveness of interventions? Satisfaction of patients with the interventions provided?

How do you plan on measuring these variables? Is knowledge the same as GPA? Will you use a standardized test? How will nursing interventions/care be measured? If you look at how you will answer the problem, this might affect how the problem is actually worded.... i.e. If you can't measure your variables, you need to re-work the problem so it is actually feasible.

What do you mean by comprehensiveness? Does that mean how they understand a certain intervention? Such as the rationale and what are the correct ways to do it? and may I know what GPA stands for? I don't know what that acronym means.hehe :) Thanks for the advice! We added something about the 11 CORE competencies such as safe and quality nursing care. My group would want to know HOW effective or how good the student nurses are in planning for interventions for their clients based on safe and quality nursing care. :D would that be a more feasible one? Thanks!

By comprehensiveness, I just mean completeness. For example, does the nurse include ALL of the interventions necessary for exceptional care of the patient? GPA = grade point average. Perhaps GPA could indicate 'knowledge,' but it might be better to go with a specific nursing test to determine this.

In order to make a feasible research question, you really need to think about what it is specifically you are measuring. It might sound counterintuitive, but thinking ahead will save you time later...

It sounds like you would like to measure the effectiveness of nursing interventions based on safe and quality nursing care. But how will you measure this? I encourage you to think backwards a little bit... In order to determine if the problem is feasible, you need to think about how you will answer the problem. It seems a little complex measuring effectiveness based on 11 core competencies... is there a scale you can use?

I agree this is a hard assignment, but once you grasp how to hone your thoughts down to a few concepts and string them into a statement with measureable objectives, it will all fall into place. Good luck.

this assignment will also teach you not to jump at sound bites. once you start asking, "now, what does "competence" mean, exactly? and how do we know?" you'll find out how hard it is--and how necessary-- to be precise in your terms.

and if you learn about how to care for disease properly.....wouldn't you care for them more effectively and accurately. Wouldn't that them impact how they get better?

Are you meaning skill competency? Like the novice nurse will follow the guidelines, etc? It's because they are new to it and haven't developed the ability to cluster all of the data together and to connect them. At least that's kinda how my book explained it. If you have the Jarvis physical assessment book, I suggest you looking in it. I suppose others would have it in there too. That's just what I have.

I obviously didn't read the above posts. Sorry! (ignore me, teaching back what I learned helps me get it to really stick. My poor husband has had to listen to more about interviewing etc than he has ever wanted to know!) I thought maybe you could of possibly meant this. Good luck!
