This is an involved question, but hopefully someone can answer it: I didn't do too hot on A&P1 last spring, but I had previously registered for A&P2 for this summer. All other other A&P1 sections are closed, and I haven't dropped A&P 2 yet. I still remember many concepts about A& P1, so if I do well in A&P 2, do you think the class would be accepted as a pre-req in place of A&P 1 or would I still need to re-take A&P1 at some point?

Short answer ..I doubt it , not at my school anyway ,so you should maybe ask your advisor to get a more informed opinion seeing if you actually are required to take both classes. At my school the A&P I was a pre-req while the A&PII is a co-req there fore completely seperate grades...you see?
Good luck with whatever you decide to do though, and if you do retake A&P I you will likely retain much more of the info in the long run..

a & p 1 covers half of the physiology and A & P 2 covers the other half of the bodies physiology. so i don't think it will 'make' up for a less than stellar grade in the first. how bad are we talking ? less than a C?
Good luck.

What is "not too hot"? Most won't accept below a C.
I got a C in A&P1 and took A&P2 a few years later and got a B.
Do you know why you didn't do so well? Mine was study habits (I didn't have any) so by the time I went back to school I had developed some decent study habits and did much better.
I do think it is possible to do well in A&P2 even if you didn't do well in A&P1, you just have to recognize the problem and fix it so that you don't make the same mistake in this class. I doubt that it will replace the grade but if you get an A, it could bring your GPA up to a more competitive level.

The only way I know of to grade replace a class is to replace it with a higher grade from the same class. Now if you got a passing grade of C in A&P 1 and take A&P 2 during the summer and get an A or B, then you should be fine. But if you get a C in A&P 2 instead, it could go either way. C's bring your GPA down a decent amount. I went from a 3.4 to a 3.2 in one semester. Got an A in Dev. Psych, a B in Micro, and a C in A&P 1.
If your grade in A&P brought your GPA down below a 3.0, depending on how competitive your school is, I would suggest you retake A&P 1 and grade replace.

Drop the class.
A&P II over the summer would be an accelerated condensed version of the normal semester/quarter course. You will probably be in over your head and would risk doing poorly and ruining your gpa.
So, here's your options.
Audit AP I at another school. But actually do the work. Or opt to take it at a different community college, pay out of pocket if you need to. No grumbling, just suck it up and accept it is for the 'cause'. Since you have to submit transcripts from all schools attended for entry into most programs you will have verification that you did improve the grade. If the original was a D or less you could transfer it back to your school.
Retaking AP I would be the only science course I would suggest over the summer. But realize that the detail you require may be sorely lacking, and they'll be cramming facts into your head. Don't think about the extra semester, but weigh the whole thing out carefully. If I were in your position I'd simply retake it in the fall instead.
As a former science major I would also recommend that you consider taking an additional science class if you can. Since your gpa is going to be hindered by this one hiccup, demonstrating your proficiency in the sciences might tip the scales on your behalf. Genetics would be a good one, or another biological science. I'd shy away from physics unless you have good math skills. Plus, the majority of your classmates would be pre-med, engineering, science, or computer science majors.
Good Luck!

Thanks to everyone who replied. A&P 2 begins during SS2. I have been looking for other colleges that have open sections of A&P 1, but none are available. Last semester, I took A&P 1 with microbiology, which were both intense.
Anyhow, I'm thinking that since A&P 2 is the only class I'm taking during SS2, it might be more manageable than taking it along side other classes during the fall. Then, I'll have to take A&P 1 when it's being offered in the fall (I have no other choice). I know nursing courses are tougher than the pre-req's, so I'm pushing myself to study a lot (in preparation for nursing school). I still haven't made up my mind whether to drop A&P 2 during SS2.

No-- both classes are vital to your nursing education and BOTH are important to nursing schools. My suggestion? A&P II is already hard and taking it over the summer may incline you to pull out your hair..lol! Take your time and use it wisely. I understand that you want to hurry up and get these pesky pre reqs out the way, but you dont want to continue repeating classes because you dont get the best grade that you probably would have gotten if you had put yourself in a less-stressful situation! A&PI and II are strictly tied to one another so if you feel that you could be shaky on A&P I, give youself time to brush on a few of those AP terms and then register for AP II.
