Worth it to take TEAS or HESI, even if schools I'm applying to don't require it?

Published

Hey!

So I'm currently wrapping up my pre-reqs for nursing school, and am trying to do everything I can to get a competitive "edge" for getting in somewhere. I was talking to a gal yesterday who just got into an accelerated (15-month) BSN program, and she thinks that her good score on the TEAS test played a significant part in getting accepted. She didn't take the HESI because she said something about schools being able to choose their own questions to be put on the HESI, so that essentially a good HESI score for one school would be inapplicable potentially to other schools? I don't know enough about HESI to fully comprehend that...

Anyway, long story short, do you all think it is worthwhile to take either or both of these tests, even if I won't be applying to schools that use them? I already have healthcare experience, a 4.0 pre-req GPA (only 3.3 cumulative though!), and I am mainly applying to OHSU in Oregon. I imagine I could still mention my score(s) in an essay or an interview somewhere... Thoughts?

THANKS!

They won't even consider the test result if it is not a requirement. Only take the tests that you need to apply, don't take any extra tests that won't count.

No. Do not waste your money on study materials and a test that a nursing school will not even consider.

Okay, thanks for the input!
