Workload of the student nurse practitioner

Hi all,

I have been thinking about going back to school to become a nurse practitioner. I would love to specialize in gerontology. I love my old folks. I have an associates degree in nursing and I have a 4 year finance/management degree. I have been currently taking classes towards my BSN.

When I went to school to become a nurse the workload was extremely heavy to the point of living and breathing school work for 2 years. I was wondering how the work load of the nurse practitioner was? Especially the clinical portion. How is it working full time while doing the clinicals? I intend to do this program at a slow pace-probably one class a semester to include the summer.

I am a good and thorough student and nurse but frankly the workload scares the bejeebers out of me. I graduated in 2008 and remember the all consuming study it took to be a nurse.

Thanks for all insights and advice

I went to school full-time; there is a part-time program where I attended but I wanted to be done in one year so I just dived in. If you can find a program that will allow you to take one class at a time, I'm not sure how long it would take to complete, but I would think working full-time along with studies would be do-able.
