Working weekend option (2-16's)

Published

Does anyone out there work this schedule? I'm going to be interviewing next week for a position with this schedule. I assume that I'd sleep normally prior to my first shift, go to work, go straight to bed after work, get up and go to work again. Does that sound right?

I worked a weekend only position at a LTC but they were 12 hours shifts Sat & Sun., got paid for 72 hours per pay period but had absolutely no benefits. No medical, no retirement, no PTO and no weekends off...ever. I loved being off through the week but working every single weekend gets old, and having no benefits didn't well...Benefit me.

Honestly there is no way I could do two 16s back to back. I drive 45 mins. one way to work, and would end up getting less than 4 hours sleep before having to go back in again. Two or three 12s back to back are doable, but 16s back to back are pretty tough.

I work the weekend option at my job. I have been on this plan since 2009.

I work every Saturday and Sunday 7p-7a. I have Mon-Fri off each week.

I get paid for 36 hours and get full benefits. However, my PTO sucks, and I have already maxed out the amount I can earn on this plan. Therefore, I am FORCED to take a couple of weekends off this month in order for it to start building up again. I save my PTO time just in case I get sick or something. I take vacations during the week so I don't have to use my PTO.

I'm getting to the point where I'm considering going PRN because I'm getting tired of missing out on life on the weekends. I've missed so many family gatherings and outings because everything happens on either a Saturday during the day (when I'm sleeping) or on Sunday after church (when I'm sleeping).

I did weekend option for eight or nine years. It worked for me at the time because I was home schooling four kids. Now that they're grown, I'd love to go back to it and have my weekdays free to volunteer and such- but new weekend option positions no longer exist where I work.
