Working in unpleasant conditions

Something mentioned on a different post inspired me to ask this question: under what sort of unreasonable or undesirable conditions have you ever had to work? I've been rather lucky, I've never had any truly terrible situations. Each place has something I don't like but nothing too unbearable. I've been cold and I've been hot, and I've had to sit in a darkened room w no entertainment but my iPhone (no WiFi, just 3G), and I've had some uncomfortable chairs, and no access to a microwave in one place, and one place I had to hang out in a college dorm lounge on a weekend overnight and deal w drunk students coming and going. But what have YOU had to deal with?

And yes, it got to the point where I had to tell the agency director. Did I do the right thing?

It's one thing for a mom to be like, "Hey. I need to go run to pick up Susie's prescription-" and it's a 20 minute errand and I understand she doesn't want to bring the other 2 kids with her. When the parents ask nicely and show genuine appreciation, I don't mind bending the rules. Even though we shouldn't, EVER.

With this mom, though, she did it EVERY DAY for HOURS. And wouldn't ever ASK or say thank you. It led to me feeling really unappreciated. I'll go into detail more in other threads. It's a bad situation.

What does DHR mean?

Dhr = dhs = cps. Whatever your state calls it. Child protection, child welfare. Etc.

Here is what I notice ....that parents treat us like hired help (HA!), while others can't thank us enough for coming to help out.

Some won't provide us a place to sit down for a brief break and chance to chart, while others spoil us with nice chairs and offers of coffee or dessert.

My personal conclusion is that some people have major bitterness problems, and it shows itself in an extreme attitude of entitlement. I feel sorry for such people.
