Working in the U.K.

Hello! I am a Pediatric nurse here in the U.S. and I would like to work in the U.K. I am registered to take the English Language test to prove I can speak English I guess, haha, but after that I see that there is still quite a process to undertake to even be considered or allowed to register in the U.K. what I am wondering is it even possible to work there now, or is this a fruitless endeavor? And if I do get it all done what is it like working there with a past of American training? DOes anyone have any tips or advise I would greatly apprecaite it. I really love London, studied abroad there would like to take a shot at it!! Thanks!!!!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

A lot will depend on NMC and training but also whether you meet the shortage occupation list which is here and this was updated a couple months ago.

ONLY the following jobs in this occupation code:

•specialist nurse working in operating theatres

•operating department practitioner

•specialist nurse working in neonatal intensive care units

UK shortage occupation list Dec 2009

So Pediatric Nurses aren't in demand then. Hmm do you think that would change at all or not anytime soon?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

The list hasn't changed much in a couple of years, the only difference I can see when change made in Dec 09 was management posts was removed.
