Working with spouse

Has anyone ever worked with their spouse as both RN's? I have been a nurse going on 5 years and my spouse will graduate nursing school soon and we want to work together but it is hard due to no one wanting us to work the same shift in case of a family emergency it would wipe out the staff. I work in the ER currently and my spouse also wants to work ER with me and has many years of experience on an ambulance before nursing school. We have Thought about doing travel nursing assignments together if that is even a possibility. Does anyone have any experience with This? If so we would love to hear about your thoughts/experiences. Thank you.

You have a sample size of one. I've never heard of that rationale before, but if you work in a tiny hospital, it could make some limited sense. More hospitals don't like family members working together because of clique formation.

The major reason why you may not get the same shift at a particular hospital is lack of need. But choices as a traveler are vast, the entire country is your oyster. Your needs may limit you to large hospitals, or large cities where perhaps you can get assignments at different hospitals.

A bit of counterpoint, it is a pretty uncommon marriage for spouses to spend 24 hours a day with each other every single day. Your marriage may benefit from some space. Finally, your spouse needs two years of experience prior to traveling, so you have a lot of time to see how things work. Start checking in with agencies about a year before you plan to travel to see who you think you can work well with, and what the possibilities await you.
