Working while in school

hi all,

i just joined this online community in search of some advice from people in the field/program...so hello!

i have been overwhelmed with thoughts on what to do about my job while in the nursing program. i'm 27, so i suppose that makes me a "non-traditional" student. i start this fall, and while i've been taking gen ed's over the past 2 years, i have been working full-time in an office as well - for the last 6 years. the thought of going part-time scares me since i'm used to a certain income now, but i know i cannot continue full time and give the proper amount of time and energy to my schoolwork that will be required. can anyone offer some insight on good job suggestions that offer decent income but could accommodate my class schedule, too?

    I would say waitressing or bartending would be most flexible if you have a manager that works with your schedule. PS - I'm in the same exact situation as you...already have a Bachelors, work full time in office and 28 years old. Still pecking away at the prereqs.

    I'm in a similar situation, except I have a small child, which makes it even more overwhelming. I work full time now, but I'm looking for a position in a hospital that will allow me to work 7p-7a on weekends(Fri, Sat, Sun). That way I would still be full time and able to receive benefits. Just an idea.

    I know everyone is different, and if you don't believe you can keep your full-time job and be a nursing student, well, you know your limits better than I do, so you can ignore me if you want. :D

    I had/am having NO problem working a very very full-time job (I average 60 hours a week) and taking a full course load of pre-reqs (18-20 credit hours a term). I know these aren't the same as nursing classes but they are challenging sciences. I don't feel like I'm missing out on time with my hubby or social events, and I've got a 4.0 - and I promise I'm no smarter than anyone else. I have good study habits and determination, and I make it work. Maybe you can too, if you can't afford to give up your full-time income? Lots of people work full time through nursing programs and do great.
