We all know how important exercise is to our well being. It keeps us healthy and mentally focused. However, we also all know there are only 24 hours in a day and many of us find exercise is low on the priority list. What do you do to stay healthy? Walking the stairs during that 15 minute break? Parking further out in the parking lot? Or something different? Help out your fellow nursing students and share with us what's working for you.

I dropped my gym membership (it took extra time to get there anyway) and I bought a good treadmill. I walk or run while I do my initial reading of assigned chapters. I know a lot of people can't handle that motion while they read, but it has served me well so far. Of course, it gets old after a while, so I'm taking advantage of the extra time between prereqs and nursing school to get in extra running outside.

I have lost 70 lbs within the last year, and now that I'm in my first semester of my ABSN program, I am struggling to keep up with those better eating habits and my exercise regimen. I'm still hanging on the best I can though. I go to Zumba classes 2-3x/wk, spin class at least 1x/wk and I lift 3x/wk. I try to get most of my intense workouts in on the weekends, because on most weekdays, I am absolutely exhausted after school and I literally don't have as much time to devote to the gym. In any case, we have to be sure to get that physical activity in as best we can. We can't take care of others if we don't take care of ourselves! :)

I get up every morning (well, most mornings, heh) at 5AM and hit the gym before work or school. Weather permitting, I'll do 20-30 miles on my bike. That goes for days off as well as work/school days. During the winter I'll hit the trainer and spin instead. My biggest challenge is maintaining a (somewhat) healthy diet, like CareQueen said.

I am starting Nursing School in the fall, we have a group of us that are going to meet at the school an hour before class and make laps around the trail. I just hope it helps me to maintain.
