Working Off Narc Restriction

Nurses Recovery

Published

I am in CT, and on a 4 year probation. I obviously am having trouble finding a job with a narc restriction. As a LPN that is what we do mostly is push meds. So thank God I found a job, not as a LPN, but working in the home care field. I have been lucky with this, however, I still miss patient care and contact dearly. I saw a post on another thread about working off narc restriction by volunteering. I want to present this to my probation monitor and see what she says. Anyone know anything about this? Where would I look, etc? Thanks for the help. And to all my fellow recovering, and non recovering nurses Happy 2015!!!

Hey! I can't speak for every state but in mine (alaska) there are requirements to keep a license valid. Every two years a nurse must do two of the following: work 320 hours, participate in 30 hours of unpaid nursing work, complete 30 ceu credits. In my case I am working outside of nursing and will complete the 30 ceu and 30 volunteer hours to keep my license valid during my contract. Some states require that those who are under a contract must work a certain amount of paid hours: what does your contract say in regards to this?

Might have been my post. I am in Kansas and we are allowed to volunteer off our narc restriction doing nursing work. I do not have personal experience doing this but you might try free clinics or maybe the red cross? The trick is that the position has to utilize your nursing skills and meet any stipulation requirements, write the required site reports, etc.
