LTC from what I've observed as a previous wound care wench :):
-don't eat, don't pee, don't sit, and don't................you fill in the blank
You will run your rear end off, do massive med passes as fast as a speeding bullet, manage CNA staff, have twenty things to do at the same time. Administration is DOWN YOUR NECK. Charting endlessly, weekly assessments for this, monthly assessments for that.........
I like the ED much better, its more relaxing LOL
:rotfl:

And these things will not go the way you expect them to. Oh and you are getting two admissions tonight also.
and of course the day shift thinks you do nothing and the night shift thinks everyone is incompetent LOL . Just kidding :)
"Shift Wars" are bogus. Every shift works as hard as the one before it...just every one has its own challenges. 7-3 deals with management, PT, OT, 2ish med pass, MD, two meals, family members....3-11 deals with a little less staff, twoish medpasses, sundowning!, more falls, family members, 11-7 may have to deal with less ppl awake, but they have a lot less staff, and they have to deal with those fall risks getting up a million times a night, confused residents, lots of paperwork....so it all evens out if you ask me.
It absolutely DOES even out. Shift wars were the most annoying part of working anywhere! It really makes no sense. You do your job, I'll do mine, and we'll help each other if we need to . I've worked all shifts and therefore was able to STAND UP for the other shifts when the nurses started witching about them :).

hello everyone...
i am a new grad. i am looking to work part time at a hospital med-surg floor and have another part time or per diem position at a nursing home. i know how it will be working at a hospital, but how is it working in a nursing home? what's the typical routine at a nursing home for an RN at 3-11p or 11p-7a shift?
and any new yorkers here? what are some good nursing homes in new york (manhattan, queens, brooklyn preferably)
