Working and NP program?

Published

I just wanted to get a general idea about working during graduate school. Please tell me if you are working or not during your NP program. If you are, how many hours per week and how many credits are you taking? Thanks in advance :)

Specializes in ICU.

I work full-time (3 12s a week), go to a brick-and-mortar school taking 2 classes a semester, and just had a baby. I have not started clinical yet (I'm getting all the other classes out of the way first), so I'll have to wait and see what I'll be able to handle as soon as clinical starts (I know I will be switching to working Fri-Sat-Sun).

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I worked full time thru my MSN, and two post-MSN certificates - one with 576 hours/clinical and a second, a few years later with 515 hours of clinical.

For both of them I saved up my PTO big time, did clinicals at night and on weekends too.

It was easy to do for the first one because I worked 3 12's. With the second, I was already an APN working 50-60 hours/week. It was not fun.
