As Silverdragon102 said, it is depend on the hospital, unit/ward and the staff. In my ward, we do short days (8 hours) or long days (12 hours).
Ahh but if for example you do 3 long days (12 hours shifts), does it follow that you only have to work for only 3 days? Thank you for the replies!!
Exactly, I work generally long days and I work 3 days per week.
Thank you!

12 hour shifts = its 13 shifts per 4 week schedule, so that 3 days a week and then 4 on the fourth to make up the hours.
You usually only get paid for 11 of the 12 hours, so that is 33 hrs a week and then 44 hrs on the fourth week.
Fulltime is 37.5hrs, as Silverdragon says, so there is a deficit of 4.5 hrs on weeks 1 to 3, which you make up on the fourth.
But that might not be standard, its how London hospitals seem to calculate it but there may be regional differences I guess.
Does anyone know how is it with regards to scheduling in kings college hospital?
There are quite a few people from there on the RCN Forum, you could post your question there, or just ask HR.
