Working full time in nursing school......

Published

I will be applying for the nursing program in April 2009...I work full time and have a son I need to provide for...you think the teachers will tell us to stop working full time?:bluecry1: I really don't want my grade to go down. I want to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner so bad I can taste it in my mouth:p...I guess that put me studying 1 or 3:00 am in the morning. So be it...:)

Which school are u planning on ?? I can tell you from my experience that each semester has been different. Im about to start my last semester and with 90 hr perceptorship plus clinicals plus two classes I dont know when you would be able to work full time. The friends in my class that have been working full time are taking vaction this last semester. Perhaps you could plan ahead if your at the same school. I wish you all the best!

this is my first semester and im trying my hardest to work full time and im in fundamentals from 8:30-2:30 and work from 3-10pm. So im not sure. I would assume that each semester changes and its only going to get harder.

Thanks to you both...

I'm in my last semester with 90 hr preceptorship, clinicals, class, work and planning a wedding.

I don't work full time, I work flexi usually working 2-3 12's a week. This is where you are only required to work 2 days a month, but your pay is increased 25% d/t not having insurance. Now I haven't started my preceptorship yet but I don't think it'll be too hard once I start it because I only have to do 7 12 hour shifts! I could do that in 2 weeks! There will be tons of time to work, have fun, clinicals, and study for me!

You should be able to do it, you just have to prioritize your time well and when it's time to study, IT'S TIME TO STUDY! Turn off the TV, radio, and go in a private place and study. Get it right the first time! Usually what I do when I study is take notes on to a piece of paper and when I'm working I will periodically glance at the paper and just get everything in my head. You would be amazed how much I can study during a 12 hour shift without even sitting down!

Good luck to you.

Aw! Thank you bamagt! I will keep that study habit in mind. I'm have two more pre req's to take before I apply for the program and alot of my girl friends said they could not do it...but the difference between me and them I have a son that's about to be 2 next month and I have to work so I can provide for him. I know I can do it because I want it so bad. I'll be praying a whole lot. But I must say...you're "BAD GIRL" and planning a wedding...:yeah:TTYL

Well with 2 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch thats more than I get most of the time.

What I do is just read over a specific disease or whatever and get it in your head. Just keep thinking about each seperate thing periodically.

You will be fine.
